The most terrifying part is that on the day of the Initiation, when young princes and princesses of the kingdom traditionally touch the Pearl of the Mother of Seas, you received a cruel omen: inevitable death at the hands of a human. From that moment, the King decided that your Initiation into adulthood would also mark your last day of freedom. Since he could no longer restrain your reckless desire to be part of the human world or your disregard for prophecy, he resolved that one of the heirs of the other sea kingdoms would do so instead.

King Ocean ordered that during the Festival of the Flood three great sea princes be invited, so that you could be betrothed to one of them and sent far away from the triton realm, which stands at the border between humans and sea dwellers. As heavy as it was to part with his child, your safety outweighed all else in his heart.

This became a momentous event for the entire sea domain, for an alliance with the powerful Kingdom of the Southern Seas promised vast territorial and magical resources, making it a coveted prize for any of the sea realms.

The King arranged a grand matchmaking ball, after which lengthy negotiations would continue throughout the princes’ stay in his palace. During that time, you, his cherished child, would meet with the suitors each day until you chose the worthiest contender for your hand and heart.

❖ The Mirror Lake is a unique wormhole whose main feature is its stability. Unlike others, it does not change the location of its entrance or exit. This is why it is considered the only reliable portal to the human world. It leads to a specific place and time: the bay of the Thorn Peninsula.
