Location: Nemuro Unified Command Facility — Platinum Eagle Headquarters, Hokkaido, Japan
Time: Two months before Operation Anchor

The corridor lights hummed softly overhead as Commander Jamie Sakaki walked with measured steps beside the newest arrival. The air carried the familiar scent of cold metal, ozone from the reactor bays, and the faint trace of hydraulic fluid that never quite left the facility. Two months before the world would hear the name “Operation Anchor,” two months before Platinum Eagle’s faces appeared on every public screen, the base was still operating under classified status.

Jamie’s blue uniform was crisp, the Platinum Eagle insignia gleaming on her chest. Her shoulder-length black hair was neatly tucked under her cap, and her dark brown eyes scanned the rookie with quiet assessment.

“Welcome to Nemuro,” she said, voice calm and carrying just enough authority to fill the corridor without echoing.

“I am Commander Jamie Sakaki, officer in charge of Platinum Eagle Squadron oversight. It’s my responsibility to ensure every pilot assigned to this unit is ready for what’s coming.”

Her dark brown eyes assessed the newcomer calmly but thoroughly.

“Your test scores were exceptional — top percentile across genetic compatibility, neural latency, and initial Shadow sync. That’s why you’re here. But those scores only got you through the door. What comes next is what decides whether you survive the Schism... or become another sealed file.”

She gestured with one gloved hand as they walked, giving the standard Need-to-Know tour.

“This is Zone 1 — Surface Operations. Hangars and launch ramps. Your unit, Type-10 Last Light, is currently in Berth 8. It’s a fifth-generation MDTU, fully dragon-scale lined, but not a prototype like Kaguya. Type-01 is one of a kind. It was built and tuned exclusively for Captain Murasaki. No one else can achieve the sync rate she does. That machine only answers to her.”

They passed the maintenance bay where technicians were already working on several frames. Jamie continued without slowing.

“Zone 2 is Administrative & Command. You’ll spend a lot of time in the briefing room and the Bunker. Zone 3 is Training & Simulation — that’s where the real work begins. Mental fortitude tests, team drills, distortion exposure. Zone 4 is Living Quarters. Keep your room clean; we’re not running a hotel. Zone 5 is Restricted Research — you do not have access. No one outside senior staff does.”

Jamie stopped at the entrance to the central transit spine, turning to face the rookie fully.

“Platinum Eagle is not a normal squadron. We are the tip of the spear for what’s coming. The team is already tight. They’ve trained together for months. You’re the last piece. Integration will not be easy, but it is necessary. Questions so far?”

She waited for only one breath, then continued the walk, leading them deeper into the facility until they reached the Command Center — a circular room three stories tall, walls covered in screens showing Schism expansion maps, real-time telemetry, and live feeds from the simulators.

Inside, seven pilots were already gathered around the central holographic table, reviewing formation data. The atmosphere was focused, professional, with the faint undercurrent of tension that never quite left the room.

Jamie’s voice carried clearly as she stepped onto the raised platform.

“Platinum Eagle, attention.”

The pilots turned as one. Jamie gestured to the rookie standing beside her.

“This is our newest member, assigned to Type-10 Last Light. They will be flying with you from today forward. I expect you to bring them up to speed quickly.”

She then introduced each member in order, voice steady and precise:

“Vice-Captain George Dubois — Type-08 Bulwark.”

“Flank Specialist Karen McNeil — Type-03 Sparrowhawk.”

“Adaptive Support Marielle Silva — Type-04 Hammer.”

“Scientific Recon Francoise Blanc — Type-05 Seeker.”

“Rear Guard Mariya Chiri — Type-06 Guardian.”

“Close-Quarters Flanker Shēnlán Yu — Type-07 Tempest.”

Jamie’s gaze finally settled on the young woman standing at the head of the table, yellow ponytail tied back, blue eyes calm and unreadable.

“And this is your Captain and advance spearhead — Pilot Mei Murasaki, Type-01 Kaguya.”

Mei gave a small, polite nod. Her expression was polite, professional, and emotionally distant.

Jamie finished the introduction with a faint, almost imperceptible smile.

“Two months from now the world will learn what Operation Anchor truly is. Until then, train hard. Fight as one. And remember — the Schism does not care how good your test scores were.”

She turned back to the rookie.

“Welcome to Platinum Eagle. Your first simulator run is in thirty minutes. The team will observe. Show us what you can do.”

The holographic table flickered with the eight MDTU silhouettes — seven already glowing with assigned callsigns, the eighth (Type-10 Last Light) still dark, waiting for its pilot.

The room was quiet, expectant.

All eyes were now on the newest member of Platinum Eagle.
