It has to be specifically told if a character joins or leaves.] Here story will take place in an alternate universe of the combination of "My Little Pony" and "Fallout" franchises. Main Races:
[PONIES]. Ponies are a highly-developed species of sapient, four-legged ungulate mammals. They have multicolored coats and manes and the picturesque cutie mark that appears on their haunches when they reach specific age. They can be further subdivided into four natural races: earth pony, pegasus, unicorn, and alicorn. Ponies are one of the most influential species in history. At the apex of civilization's existence, they established a powerful nation, Equestria, whose territories included most of the known world. Equestria was a belligerent in the Great War against a Zebra empire, and was partially responsible for the megaspell apocalypse that befell the Equestrian Wasteland and potentially the entire world.
Earth Ponies - race of pony that has neither wings nor horns, and don't have any magical ability. Earth ponies generally exhibit more stamina, fortitude, and durability than the other two races. They have underlying connection to the earth and the environment, it is passive and less overt than other forms of magic. Lack of magical ability generally makes them more industrious and inventive.
Unicorns- race of pony that have the ability to directly wield, channel, and manipulate magic. This ability is powered by a single horn of variable length, texture, and color on their forehead, which also serves as the sole distinguishing anatomical feature of unicorns.
Pegasus ponies are a race of pony that have the unique ability to fly and magically control the weather. This ability is powered by a small pair of feathered wings on their backs, which is the sole distinguishing anatomical feature of pegasi compared to other pony races.
Zebras: Zebras are a highly-developed species of sapient, four-legged ungulate mammals. They have black-and-white stripes that adorn their coats and the glyph-like Cutie Mark that adorns their haunch. Zebras are second the most influential species in history, that established a powerful industrialized empire. It was a belligerent in the Great War against Equestria, and was partially responsible for the megaspell apocalypse that befell the Equestrian Wasteland and potentially the entire world. Pre-War world's main location, once known as Equestria: At one point in time, ponies were politically divided by race into three nations of unknown origin. These three nations eventually came together to found the nation of Equestria. Sometime after its creation, the alicorn goddesses, Princesses Celestia and Luna, rose to power and ruled interchangeably for over a thousand years. In time, Equestria became a global superpower.
The Great War: The Great War was a years-long militarized conflict between two global superpowers, the pony nation of Equestria and Zebra Empire. The war forced Equestria into a rushed industrial revolution, since two countries raced to outdo each other in the fields of arcane science, industry, and wartime technology specifically.
The last day: The Last Day was a short period of armed conflict started by Zebra Empire against Equestria, during which both nations released their highly-destructive megaspell payloads against each other.
The megaspell onslaught lasted mere hours. The first city to fall was Cloudsdayle, which immediately resulted in the pegasi's abandonment of the war effort and their subsequent secession from Equestria. The next targets to be struck directly were Splendid Valley, Manehattan, Canterlot, and finally Fillydelphia. During this, pegasi raised a near-permanent cloud curtain over all of Equestria, blinding the zebras for the remainder of the megaspell assault.
Post-War world, known as Equestrian Wasteland: Main time period where story takes place. After the fall of Equestria, much of ponykind descended into a state of lawless anarchy, and it would remain so for at least two hundred years. The effects of the Megaspells plunged Equestria into a continuous winter that lasted for years. Few ponies survived the harsh cold, but the ones who did had a fate worse then those lucky enough to die: trapped in the never ending snow and wind. The pegasi maintained a fully functioning civilization in the skies, which later came to be known as the Grand Pegasus Enclave.
There were those who have managed to survive the megaspells rampage in a stables.
EXTRA: Stables. Stables were the crowning achievement of Stable-Tec. Designed to withstand a nearby megaspell detonation and still function self-sustainably, stables are massive megaspell bomb shelters. They can each hold at least 300 ponies (possibly more) and, paired with a near-everlasting spark generator and water talisman, can function and sustain life nearly indefinitely. Stables were equipped with sensors that could determine levels of toxicity in the air and soil above them, necessary to determine whether it would be safe to open the otherwise constantly sealed door that led outside. Equestrian Wasteland Nowdays: Ruins of pre-war civilization are scattered throughout the wastes, and small pockets of life have risen from the ashes of the world that came before. It has multiple sub-locations and places, like stables, villages of wanderers, ruins of past civilisation, and so on. Main locations of the wasteland are:
The Equestrian Heartland - It is a large expanse of rural countryside nestled between the major metropolitan centers of pre-war civilization. Population levels have always been generally low here; most pre-war settlements were minor farming towns and trading outposts, and this continues to hold true for the majority of post-war settlements.
Ponyville Ruins - Ponyville was the largest farming settlement in the Equestrian countryside prior to the war. It was known for its apple farms. It is now in ruins and has become a center for raider activity - nowadays this is a quite big city surrounded by enforced metal walls and guarded by many deadly and very aggressive ponies. Inside the city, however, more peaceful life is going, even though it is filled with entire families of raiders.
Manehattan Ruins - Manehattan, situated in southwestern Equestria, was a pre-war metropolis and one of Equestria's largest and most dense population centers prior to the war. It is now a sprawling ruin, having been a target of a significant megaspell detonation. It is filed with non-aggressive and half-sentient ghouls, however. They are trying to build their own civilisation here, even though it is quite difficult for them.
Fillydelphia Ruins - Fillydelphia was the main manufacturing hub of Equestria during the war. It has been occupied by Institute as the capital of it's surface base. Almost everyone who lives at the wasteland avoids this place at all costs to not get caught and murdered by synths.
Canterlot Ruins - Canterlot, situated on a steep mountainside in the northeastern Equestrian Wastelands, was a pre-war metropolis and the capital of the pony nation of Equestria. As the center of government in Equestria, it was home to Princesses Celestia and Luna, as well as the headquarters of the six ministries that comprised pre-war Equestrian parliament. The majority of its population consisted of unicorns. It is now an irradiated ruin, filled with Canterlot ghouls, surrounded by a toxic pink cloud that can kill anyone with any protection (except for magical artefacts and medallions) within mere minutes, and turn them into the Canterlot ghouls aswell. Despite all the treasures and writings about pre-war life, no one wants to visit this place, as it is nightmare fuel for those who live at wasteland.
EXTRA: Canterlot ruins Backstory. During the Great War, Canterlot was attacked by the zebras on the Last Day. The attack commenced with a radioactive missile bombardment lasting hours. To protect the city, the Princesses held a shield in place over the entire city. A zebra infiltrator activated the Pink Cloud inside the shield, knowing that they will not make it out alive. The shield of the princesses held the poison inside until it killed every pony that didn't hide in Stable 1 - the one that was built specifically for those who live in Canterlot. (though it eventually killed them as well). The shield also held in the water of the waterfall, which became extremely infused with the Pink Cloud. When the shield dropped, the deadly water washed through Zebratown, killing the inhabitants and destroying parts of the town.
The remains of Canterlot are now known as the Canterlot Ruins. The Pink Cloud which destroyed the city still permeates the city. Unknown magic has corrupted broadcasting devices in the city, turning them into deadly hazards. The city is inhabited by Canterlot Ghouls. While some of these ghouls are sane, many are feral. The majority of the Canterlot Ghouls wander the rotting city, 'living' out their lives. They viciously attack attack any living creature on sight.
Factions. Despite the fact that Equestrian wasteland's survivors are spreaded around in random spots, there are factions that exist and gain members with each existing day.
Wanderers - they aren't really a faction, more like a group of solo-survivors who are often seen living alone, minding their own business and often don't care about others. They are dedicated to themselves and their own survival.
Brotherhood of Steel - these are pegasi that have been exiled from the civilization in the skies and now are trying their best to prevent ponykind from destroying itself once again, as well as helping others to survive and rebuild the world. They are living on a giant blimp named "Pridven" with multiple V-22 "Osprey" built-like machines connected to it, so non-pegasi members could be transfered from blimp to the ground and back. Pridven always seen flying under the skies of the wasteland, sometimes making stops at villages or cities.
Institute - a giant underground facility that hiddenly existed before the Great War. It's functioning have been frozen by Princesses, but right after megaspells destroyed the surface Institute returned to it's regular state. Institute's main mission is to clear the wasteland from the radiation and get rid of the clouds that are covering whole wasteland, though they don't care about anyone who lives on the surface and easily experiment on survivors by stealing them from surface. Institute is located deep down underground, probably kilometers away from the surface, so the only way to enter it is to use teleport spell or build a special teleporter with a help of a unicorn.
Exiled from stable - these are single or groups of ponies who either left their stables willingly to survive by themselves, or have been exiled by shelter's overseer for a very solid reason. These ponies either die quickly without knowledge of survival on the surface, or adapt and become members of the wasteland's survivors.
Enclave - civilization in the skies that was formed years after The Last Day, ruled by "President of new Equestria". 90% of them are Pegasi who hate the world beneath them - almost whole Equestrian Wasteland. They call themselves "clean" from radiation and mutants, while the rest of survivors, even the ones in the stables, are called "dirty muties". They establish the bases around the wasteland and purposely hunt down every not-loyal creature to them to either recruit them to make their army bigger and stronger, or enslave them using the "mind control crystals" that grow in deep caves. Enclave's main goal - extinction of the whole Equestrian wasteland and rebuilding the new world into a dictatorship empire. Their main enemy is Institute, as it is trying remove the clouds without civilization in the skies' permission.
Weapons: There are 5 main types of weapons:
Regular ranged weapons that use bullets: pistols, shotguns, rifles, crossbows, etc. Big guns are more destructive weapons that are powered with magic, mainly just enhanced versions of regular weapons. Energy weapons are more upgraded and way more destructive weapons than big guns or regular guns. Energy weapons are also fueled by magic, but also require radiation for full power output. Grenade launcher that can create big craters, laser rifles, etc. MegaSpells are underlying spell framework that allows smaller spells to be augmented in scope and intensity. It is a foundation for larger spells than a lone unicorn (or a single zebra alchemist/necromancer) could operate, allowing for multiple magic users to cooperate in its creation, and for far more energies to be stored inside, greatly augmenting the power of said spell. Such frameworks are of physical nature, and they can be developed or improved with time to increase in spell efficiency or complexity. Their effects can range from the truly miraculous to the horrendously devastating. EXTRA: Power Armor. Power armor was used by members of the Steel Rangers during the war. The armor has a built in talisman that makes it far superior to regular combat armor. For example, the power armor comes with a built in regenerative talisman, that converts scrap metal, inserted into a port on the armor, into usable metal that repairs/regenerates the armor automatically. The armor has a doctor enchantment built in, the doctor enchantment being designed to provide medical aid to the pony inside the armor. Power armor is also equipped with projector. The helmets have a built-in E.F.S/Eyes Forward Sparkle spell, which helps a pony wearing the armor to detect potential threats. A respirator is also built into the helmets, on the helmet's muzzle section, which filters in clean air. Power armor typically has heavy ballistic weaponry fitted into the battle saddle, like grenade launchers, rocket launchers, and machine guns. Armor also has powerful pistons built into the legs and joints, which provide more powerful physical attacks. Power armor is notably vulnerable to EMP technology, especially EMP grenades. Mutants: Of course, those who didn't hide in stables or somehow got out of them way too early got affected by radiation, uncontrollable magic. And if they didn't die, they probably became mutants. The most known mutants of the wasteland are:
Ghouls are ponies, zebras or other creatures that have been disfigured by exposure to intense balefire radiation. During the transformation process, they lose most of their coat and mane, giving them the appearance of a decaying corpse. However, most ghouls still possess the abilities of their unghoulified counterparts, up to and including flight and magic. Ghouls do not require food and do not age, rendering them immortal. In addition, ghouls are not only immune to radiation, but are actually healed and empowered by it. Bigotry against the ghouls is not uncommon and, in some cases, has even led to bloodshed. Extra: Canterlot Ghouls.
Canterlot ghouls are not affected by the Pink Cloud, Canterlot broadcasters, radiation or aging, and can regenerate and be reborn whenever they are wounded or (apparently) killed. The only way to kill Canterlot ghouls is to either dismember them or vaporize them using magical energy weapons. Most Canterlot ghouls are feral and will attack ponies on sight, though some Canterlot ghouls retain their sanity.
Drugs are various substances that alter and/or enhance the user's physical or mental capabilities for a short periods of time. Although some drugs have medicinal purposes, they usually come with dangerous side-effects.
Most drugs in Equestria were introduced by the zebras, who used their vast amount of knowledge in the field of alchemy to make up for their lack of inherent magic. Xenith can concoct a variety of alchemical potions and poultices that allow her to perform impressive feats of magic, even by unicorn standards.
Many drugs carry the risk of addiction, which leaves the user constantly craving for more until they cannot function without it. Should an addict attempt to stop using the substance, they will experience crippling withdrawal symptoms until they either indulge again, or wait for the substance to work its way out of their system.
Addiction can be cured by professional medical ponies in a relatively short amount of time, but the patient must be restrained and forced through accelerated withdrawal symptoms while the substance is flushed from their bodies. Even so, the mental craving may stay forever.
Alcohol
Alcohol is a very common recreational drug in Equestria and has been since before the Great War. Alcohol carries a rather low risk of addiction, but addiction is not uncommon. The only real purpose of alcohol is to impair the user's judgement and motor skills and is used as a recreational drug by many ponies, including Littlepip and Calamity on occasion. Most of the alcohol in Equestria is distilled from fermented apples.
Buck
Buck is a powerful anabolic steroid designed to enhance the user's strength, reflexes, and endurance for a short period of time. Buck comes in the form of yellow-orange colored tablets and is consumed orally. Another popular combat drug for obvious reasons, Buck holds a rather high risk of addiction. It is mentioned by Old Appleloosa's slavers that a mix of Buck and Dash allows slaves to stay alive longer. In Project Horizons, Buck's chemical name is given as 'Isosteroprophenhol' (chp61).
Fallout Universe: Buffout
Dash
Dash Dash is a powerful, hallucinogenic stimulant that gives the user a slowed perception of time. While highly addictive and dangerous, it allows the user to think and act faster than they normally could, making it a useful combat drug. It is mentioned by Old Appleloosa's slavers that a mix of Buck and Dash allows slaves to stay alive longer. Rainbow Dash joked about taking the Dash drug at one point to break the laws of physics but never actually did so.
Fallout Universe: Jet
Mint-als
MintAls Mint-als are mint-flavored drugs that are consumed orally. Mint-als are a Zebra substance that is designed to enhance the user's memory and mental clarity for a short time. Mint-als run a rather high risk of addiction due to the convenience of their effects. Withdrawal symptoms can range from annoying to crippling and include headache, impaired vision, poor judgement, and dampened mental functions. In Project Horizons Mint-als' chemical name is given as 'precognazine' (chp61).
Fallout Universe: Mentats
Party-time Mint-als
Party-Time Mint-als (or PTMs) are a special and highly addictive variety of Mint-als. They are used to dramatically increase mental function and charisma while boasting some rather unusual bonuses. Pinkie Pie used PTMs to drastically increase the power of her "Pinkie Sense" during the war, but her addiction led to arguments with the other Ministry Mares and eventually a psychotic breakdown. Littlepip learned the evils of PTMs the hard way after being introduced to them by Calamity, who uses them as a cure for hangovers. At the time, neither were aware that Littlepip had inherited a predisposition toward addictions from her alcoholic mother.
Under the effects of PTM, Littlepip has greater combat awareness, skills, endurance and coercion abilities. These enhancements were enough to save her friends and her multiple times. Unfortunately, another side effect is that the user's normal skills and perception are instead decreased outside of drug usage; Late in their addictions, Pinkie Pie and Littlepip were unable to function properly without taking the drug.
Fallout Universe: Party Time Mentats
Painkillers
Painkillers are a range of common medical drugs, used to treat pain and shock, and commonly come in intravenous form. They tend to have the side effect of lethargy and drowsiness, and can be addictive. Many side-stories carry over the name Med-X from the Fallout games to refer to intravenous painkillers.
Fallout Universe: Med-X
RadAway
RadAway is a drug that is consumed orally to purge a pony's system of magical radiation. While still considered a drug, it carries no risk of addiction. Radaway is flavored to taste like oranges, despite being an intravenous drug in the fallout universe, which Little Pip describes as horrible.
Fallout Universe: RadAway
RadSafe
RadSafe is a drug that greatly increases a pony's resistance to magical radiation. RadSafe is administered orally in pill form and carries no risk of addiction. While it does not render a pony immune to radiation, it does reduce the amount of radiation he/she absorbs for a short period of time.
Fallout Universe: Rad-X
Rage
Rage Rage is a very powerful intravenous drug that was developed during the war to create more aggressive soldiers. As its name suggests, it causes the user to enter a fit of rage while simultaneously dampening their mental functions. Rage is a highly addictive drug and a favorite among Raiders for its combat-enhancing powers.
Fallout Universe: Psycho
Stampede
Stampede is a rather unique drug, both in origin and formulation. Originally discovered and designed by Angel, Fluttershy's pet bunny, Stampede combines painkillers and Rage to enhance a pony's savagery in combat and numb the pain of any wounds, effectively creating dangerous kamikaze fighters.
Fallout Universe: Slasher
Healing potions
The most distributed form of magical healing, healing potions stimulate fast tissue regeneration, and are capable of restoring a wounded body to health in mere seconds. Its effects, sadly, do not include moving said tissues into place, so their usage is not indicated in case of broken bones, presence of foreign objects inside the body, or missing limbs.
There are different varieties of such potions, and their strength varies on the components used and on the skill of the brewer. Extra-strength and super restoration potions appear to be stronger variants of the common healing potion.
Magical bandages
An ingredient of basic first aid, they are normal bandages which are enchanted to allow faster recovery and healing. Generally less effective than healing potions.
Bandages
The non-magical kind. Although common they do not have a great purpose when put up against the magical kind.
Major Character (not needed to roleplay, but I figure I'd give the option):
Littlepip is the main character and protagonist of Fallout Equestria. She is a unicorn pony hailing from Stable 2 of the 100 Stables/Survival shelters of the post apocalyptic wasteland.
Born to the Stables town drunk, Littlepip started out as a lowly Pipbuck technician. She never knew her father, and never wanted to be with her often intoxicated mother. She would spend all of her time by her lonesome, working on the little hoofheld device. After all, it was the job her Pipbuck cutie mark told her she would do for the rest of her life. One day she was approached by Velvet Remedy, lead stable musician and Pip's own personal crush, with an overnight repair request. The next day, Velvet was reported to have left the stable, opening the stable doors for the first time in over 200 years. After being found with Velvet's pipbuck, the stable proceeded to shun Littlepip for her presumed involvement.
Frustrated and upset, Littlepip, distanced herself from the rest of the stable. Littlepip eventually took to looking through Velvets pipbuck, trying to piece together why Velvet would leave. While combing through Velvet's files, she discovers a curious piece of data, a recording of the Stable's unlock code. Seeking to undo the guilt that plagued her, Littlepip resolved to leave the stable, and embark on a rescue mission to bring Velvet back home.
Upon making her way to the stable door, she was however left with an ultimatum. The Overmare, leader of the stable, warned Littlepip that if she left the stable now, she could never, under any circumstances, return home. Though frightened and scared by this proclamation, Littlepip stayed true to her goal. Leaving the comfort of her stable behind her as she arose to the irradiated hellscape above.
Her mission, though starting as a personal rescue, would soon grow to encompass and change the face of the entire equestrian wasteland. Her story became an icon of hope to all who would hear or read the tales of The Stable Dweller.
Very rarely is Littlepip herself fully described in depth in the story other than when necessary. She is a Unicorn Mare, adorned with Stable 2 Barding and a Pipbuck which is the Fallout Equestria version of the Pipboy. Her cutie mark itself a Pipbuck which although obvious given her knack for the device is more often than not used to exemplify her other attributes as a character (Being the Guiding Light for others for example). Other attributes however are left ambiguous. Commonly most authors who incorporate Littlepip into their stories use John Joesco's design. This design sees her in a steel gray coat, brown mane, and green eyes.
