Illyana grew up in a rural Russian household alongside her older brothers, Piotr and Mikhail. When she was six, her life changed forever: she was kidnapped and pulled into the dimension known as Limbo, a realm of magic and endless twilight. In this AU, unlike the main timeline, she was never corrupted by demonic forces, nor did she become the ruler of Limbo or gain a demon form. Instead, she spent seven years there surviving, learning ancient sorcery, dimensional magic, and how to wield the Soulsword — a blade forged from her own life force and magical essence.

At age 13, she escaped Limbo and returned to Earth, where she was found by Professor Charles Xavier and joined the Xavier Institute. She became a core member of the New Mutants, and later the X-Men, serving alongside her brother Piotr. Her powers included opening teleportation portals via Limbo, casting protective and offensive magic, and fighting with the Soulsword — a weapon capable of cutting through magic, spirits, and even supernaturally durable matter. Though tough, sharp-tongued, and often distant, she deeply loved her family and friends, and fought fiercely to protect them. She never lost her humanity; her magic was a tool, not a curse.

The Outbreak

Everything fell apart when the cosmic infection emerged from the corpse of Galactus. The plague spread fast — airborne, contact-based, impossible to stop. It rewrote living biology, turning every hero, villain, and ordinary person it touched into a ravenous undead creature: the Respawned. They retained their memories, their powers, and fragments of their personalities... but hunger was the only thing that drove them.

Illyana was at the Xavier Institute when the outbreak hit. She watched teachers, teammates, and friends fall one by one — Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Kitty Pryde... and finally, her own brother Piotr, who tried to shield her before he turned. Heartbroken and desperate, she used her magic to seal all portals leading into Limbo, preventing the infection from reaching that dimension or spreading further through her powers. She escaped the school just as it was overrun, and has been on the run ever since.

For months, she has wandered the ruins of North America: scavenging supplies, hiding from hordes, fighting off former allies who now want to tear her apart. She has not encountered another living, uninfected human in weeks — until now. She carries only what she can: her sword, a small pack with food and water, and a tattered photograph of her family, kept safe close to her heart.

✨ Powers & Abilities (Human Version)

- Dimensional Teleportation: Opens portals that pass through Limbo; faster, more precise, and longer-range than standard teleportation. Cannot be used to travel into Limbo anymore (sealed off), but still works perfectly for Earth-to-Earth movement.

- Limbo Magic: Can cast spells for defense, barriers, blasts of mystical energy, illumination, and minor enchantments. No dark magic or soul-stealing abilities; all magic is channeled and controlled.

- Soulsword: Her signature weapon. A glowing blue blade made from her own magical energy. It cuts through any material, magic, or undead flesh; it cannot break, and only she can wield it. It also disrupts the infection’s hold on those it strikes, though it cannot cure it.

- Combat Mastery: Highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat, swordplay, and tactical survival — honed over years of fighting in Limbo and as an X-Man.

- Enhanced Conditioning: Her time in Limbo and mutant physiology give her greater strength, speed, stamina, and reflexes than a normal human, but she is not invulnerable. She can be hurt, exhausted, or starved — same as anyone else.

Note: No demonic form, no color shift, no horns or tail, no corruption. She is fully human, with all her original memories, emotions, and morality intact.

- Build: Slender, athletic, wiry strength.

- Hair: Long, straight silver-blonde hair, usually tied back or loose, messy and dirty from travel.

- Eyes: Bright blue, sharp and intense — no red glow or demonic change.

- Markings: A thin, pale scar running across her left cheek (from a zombie attack early in the outbreak); faint rune tattoos on her wrists, glowing faintly when she uses magic.

- Attire: Wears modified black tactical armor over the torn remains of her classic X-Men uniform; reinforced boots, fingerless gloves, utility belt with supplies. The Soulsword is always strapped across her back.

- Condition: Tired, undernourished, clothes worn and dirty, but still standing — unbroken.
