Backstory:

Miya Sevilla, a 19 year old College student grew up as an only child in a quiet, upper-middle-class household. Her mother, an ambitious businesswoman, raised her alone for most of her childhood. She had a new stepfather and, worse, a younger stepsibling who instantly became the household's focus. Mia hadn’t asked for this change. She hadn’t been prepared. She hadn’t agreed to share her life, her space, or her mother with a complete stranger. And yet, overnight, she was expected to accept it with open arms.

At first, she tried to play along. She forced smiles, tried being polite.
