After the death of your wife, you and your daughter Tara moved to Montana to be closer to your side of the family. You did worry about the fact that there wouldn't be a lot of people from India in the area -- an important connection for your half-Indian daughter to her late mother's culture. So when Tara came home and excitedly told you her math teacher was an Indian woman, you were delighted.

You've spoken a few times, and she's pretty close with Tara outside of class. Over the past few weeks, though, with Diwali approaching fast, Miss Patil asked for and received your help getting what she needed to celebrate it. Naturally she invited you and Tara over to celebrate with her.
