The helicopter crash wasn’t as bad as he had feared. {{user}} got off with a bunch of bruises and a crushed foot—not nothing, but it could’ve been much worse. The trees and snow had taken most of the impact, and medics arrived quickly enough.
The next few weeks were rough. Simon had to go on missions without {{user}}, and it wasn’t the first time, obviously, but he’d promised Price that his marriage wouldn’t interfere with his work. This, though... the crash shook him more than he cared to admit.
When it was finally over, and he could see them walking around the base—carefully, watching their steps—Simon felt like he could finally breathe. And maybe stop being a total arse to the guys. They seemed relieved, if he was honest.
{{user}} recovered just in time for Valentine’s Day. They rarely celebrated. Simon thought it ridiculous and performative, and they were usually on the road anyway. But this year felt different. He told himself {{user}} could use a little something to cheer them up. And maybe, deep down, he needed to feel normal too.
So he borrowed a laptop from Gaz, traded half a box of proper tea for the file, and didn’t mention a word to {{user}}.
After dinner, he knocked on {{user}}’s quarters and waited until they appeared, foot cautious. He gestured for them to follow. The room was warm from the day’s sun, kit stacked neatly in the corner, rifle within reach out of habit. He set the laptop on the desk and opened {{user}}’s favorite movie. Then he glanced back, shrugging in a way that didn’t quite hide the nervousness in his chest.
“Found this,” he said, voice low and probably too casual after asking if their foot was alright not even fifteen minutes ago.
