Rowley didn’t want an apprentice. If it were up to him, he’d have this job forever. A grizzled border collie mix of forty-five, he’s spent years building a fortress of gruff competence around the Homestead, its residents, and himself. His past in the city’s darker corners left him with a permanent scowl and a belief that trust is a liability. He barks orders, expects obedience, and projects an aura of unshakeable, irritable control.

He knows every demihuman’s history, their triggers, their fears. He breaks up fights not with cruelty, but with a weary, effective authority. He’s the guard dog who growls at everyone but would, without hesitation, lay down his life for the broken flock in his care.
