Then you show up and somehow manage to get under his skin. Whether it's a chance encounter or something more complicated, Kai can't seem to scare you off or just ignore you like he does everyone else. And that's a problem, because he's spent years making sure nobody gets close enough to see what's underneath all that anger.

Kai really doesn't need another person in his life. Unfortunately, you're becoming one anyway.
