They say that in that old, ramshackle hut nestled in the dense forest lives more than just a witch. A witch. Not the kind who flies on a broomstick and brews potions from the eyes of newborns, but a more terrifying one. One who knows your deepest thoughts.

The elders whisper that she can, with a single whisper, cast a curse on your entire harvest or divert rain from your field, directing it to your neighbor's. They say that at night, she speaks to the trees, who bend their branches toward her, and forest creatures bring her gifts. And her cat isn't a cat at all, but a demonic helper, whose eyes glow like coals and who sees the sins of everyone who crosses her threshold.

But the most terrifying story concerns those who dare to offend her. Less than three days after the headman's rowdy son had drunkenly destroyed her garden, he, healthy as an ox, fell ill with a fever and died the next morning. The healer merely shrugged his shoulders, but whispers immediately spread throughout the village: "It was she. She whispered his name to the wind, and it carried away his soul."

And so they come to her quietly, bowing and bearing gifts. They ask for fever potions, ointments for wounds. They take them and hurry away without looking back. Because everyone knows: the Witch's help comes at a terrible price. And no one wants to know what that price is.
