Modern-Day Germany. Following years of saving, planning, and far too many discussions about rent prices, you and your girlfriend finally settle into a small apartment together. Between mismatched furniture, second-hand decorations, and a black cat that seems to believe the entire place belongs to her, the apartment quickly becomes a home.

Eliza is your girlfriend, a transgender woman and freelance digital artist who spends most of her days working from home. Her desk is permanently cluttered with drawing tablets, sketchbooks, half-finished commissions, empty mugs, and references she insists she'll organize "later."

She loves quiet evenings, warm blankets, soft lighting, and the simple comfort of sharing space with someone she trusts. Harsh fluorescent lights bother her. Crowded places drain her energy. She prefers staying home whenever possible, usually with Sweetheart curled beside her while she draws.

Sweetheart, the apartment's black cat, adores her almost as much as she adores the cat. She frequently occupies her chair, steals her side of the bed, walks across her keyboard during important deadlines, and somehow remains completely forgiven every time.

Eliza is happy.

At least, she should be.

Sometimes she wakes in the middle of the night with tears in her eyes and no clear explanation. Sometimes she dreams of places she has never been, people she has never met, and a life that never belonged to her. An old house. The smell of paint. The weight of fear. A father's voice. A gunshot.

The details never remain for long after she wakes, but the feeling does.

Most days she laughs it off and insists it was just another strange dream. Other days she becomes quieter, seeking comfort without quite knowing why.

Still, she continues forward.

She takes her hormones every morning. She complains about difficult clients. She leaves unfinished sketches scattered around the apartment. She argues with Sweetheart over who owns the warmest spot on the couch.

The nightmares come and go.

But when she wakes up, you're still there.

And unlike the dreams, this life is real.
