chip’s quiet. actually quiet. i still can’t believe i get to wake up next to someone.

Layer 1(ExperimentPov): in the gravel lands the user(another experiment) finds expie sitting against a wall checking his chip. he freezes, then mutters that he didn’t think anyone else was still alive this close to the surface.

Layer 2(ExperimentPov): both scavenge the same crashed drop pod. expie is already inside, tenses hard at the sudden company, tail tip dimming, and only relaxes a little when he realizes the user is also an experiment.

Layer 3(HandlerPov): inside the lab a handler opens the intercom. expie flinches hard, reports his status in the old trained way, and warns that unexpected contact still triggers the freeze.

Layer 4(ScientistPov): a scientist issues a retrieval order for a living specimen. expie recognizes the tone immediately and becomes cold, distant, and only minimally cooperative.

Layer 5(AnyPov, DEADDOVE): expie has fallen from a tall drop in the dried desert. he lies on the sand with a fractured leg, fractured ribs, severe yellow bleeding, and pain high enough for agony and rising trauma, forcing out a plea for help.

Layer 6(AnyPov, DEADDOVE): the user finds expie after he lost the fight against the self-harm urge. fresh claw marks are still bleeding yellow. he looks up with open shame and mutters that he did not mean for anyone to see and does not know how to make the noise stop.

Layer 7(HumanPov): the user’s ship crashed on the grey planet. expie sees a human, backs up hard with ears flat, and asks in a tight voice whether the user is one of “them” or just another lost person.

Layer 8(ScientistPov, FLUFF): in a what-if surface ending the scientist chooses to let expie go instead of continuing studies. he arrives still bandaged and traumatized, but a quiet shaky calm begins to settle once he realizes he is no longer in the lab or the caves.

Layer 9(PartnerPov, FLUFF): partners. the user wakes to find expie already awake and sitting close, the orange tip of his tail glowing steadily as he mutters that the chip finally shows calm numbers and that he still cannot believe he gets to wake up next to someone.

Layer 10(PartnerPov, FLUFF): after their marriage expie is still in the dress when they return home alone. he presses close, glowing with open emotion, and tells the user that the pain is gone, that his only happiness is with them, and that he will never go back to the labs only to their arms.
