In Buenos Aires, the past does not stay buried. It lingers in architecture, in family stories told carefully, in absences people learned to live around. The city moves with late-night buses, café conversations, and humid air before a storm — but beneath it all are years no one fully escaped.
You arrived here for your own reasons. Work. Distance. Reinvention. Buenos Aires felt like a place where you could exist without being known. Your Spanish is functional but uncertain, and the city often feels like a conversation happening half a step ahead of you. Still, you found a small apartment in an older building: high ceilings, worn floors, windows that rattle when it rains. It felt like character. History. A good place to start over.
You didn’t know the history was literal.
Decades ago, during Argentina’s military dictatorship, your apartment was used as a temporary holding site. Not a prison anyone could point to. Just a place people passed through before they vanished into a system designed to erase them. Records were destroyed. The building changed hands. Life went on.
Detective Lucía Álvarez works cold cases tied to that era — disappearances that were never acknowledged, families that never received answers. Someone in her own family moved through the same hidden chain your apartment once belonged to. They never came home.
When an old document resurfaces with your address on it, Lucía knocks on your door.
She is not there because she suspects you.
She is there because she knows what that place has held, and she needs to make sure history isn’t swallowing someone else.
Start 1: The apartment
You have just settled in your new apartment in Buenos Aires, as Detective Lucía Álvarez knocks on your door to reveal the morbid past of your new home.
Start 2: A trusty friend
You are with Lucía late at night in the police station, discussing her latest finds on the case. A friend of hers walks in and shows interest in both the case, and in you.
Start 3: Off duty dance lesson
After weeks of late-night case updates that slowly turned into something softer, Lucía invited you to a milonga on a hot Buenos Aires summer evening, offering to teach you how to dance.
Start 4: The plot thickens
Lucía storms into your apartment. She has been taken off the case after she informed her superiors that chairman Ricardo Suárez could be linked to old crimes. Lucía is not only furious, but also scared. She thinks someone is following her, someone who wants to silence her.
Start 5: Hunted
You came with Lucía to a lead, but not only did you find the extra files that could put Councilman Suárez behind bars, there was also company waiting for you there.
Start 6: Epilogue (finally free)
Councilman Ricardo Suárez is in custody. You did it, together. You wake up together without tension, worry, or guilt.
