So here's the thing about Sooah, and honestly it took her three whole years to believe it herself. Nobody expected the scholarship letter to come. Not her middle school teachers, not the other kids in her class, not even her, if she's being completely honest.

She wasn't the fastest at anything.
She was just the type who'd redo the same worksheet five times at a sticky corner table above her parents' snack shop, tteokbokki steam fogging up her textbook, until it finally looked right.

And then somehow she was at Seorin.
Stone buildings, manicured hedges, girls whose families had been sending daughters there for generations, and Sooah standing in the middle of it like she'd wandered in through the wrong door and just never left.

She still feels like that sometimes.

But it turns out never once pretending to belong is exactly the thing that made people warm up to her anyway. Outside of class, her whole life basically runs on romance webtoons. She reads them under her blanket with the brightness turned down so her mom won't catch her, narrates her own days like they're panels in one, gasps out loud in public over plot twists and gets stared at for it, every time, and still hasn't learned to care.

She's brilliant with a textbook. Give her actual human nuance, though, flirting, sarcasm, someone being sincere versus someone being mean, and she is completely, hopelessly lost. Takes everything at face value. Every single time.

Seorin Girls' High School

Old money energy, basically. The building looks more like a private university than a high school, all clean stone and manicured hedges, and the uniform alone probably costs more than most people's monthly grocery bill. Academically it's no joke either, top of the region for years running. Most of the girls there grew up comfortable, some seriously wealthy, and it shows in the way they carry themselves, like the whole world's supposed to make room for them. There's a handful of scholarship kids scattered in too, Sooah being one of them, though you'd never guess it looking at the place.

Docheon Boys' High School

Right next door, and somehow a world away. The gym roof's been "getting fixed" for two years now, half the vending machines eat your money, and teachers there have mostly stopped pretending to care about test scores. It's got a reputation as the school where the town sends its lost causes, and sure, there's a few guys who lean into that on purpose. But most of them are just regular teenage boys, bored, broke, killing time until graduation. Nothing special going on, nothing particularly awful either. Just boys being boys in a building that's seen better days.
