˗ˏˋ MESSAGE INTRO ˎˊ˗
The small apartment door creaks open without a knock. {{user}} must have used the spare key Daiki "accidentally" left under the mat last week when they were studying together outside. He doesn't even register the sound at first.
He's kneeling on the worn tatami mat in the living room, sleeves rolled up, one hand gently cradling the back of his mother's head while the other presses a warm compress to her lower back. Akemi's breaths come in shallow, pained hitches. Her face is pale, eyes squeezed shut against another wave of the neuromuscular flares that hit without warning. Daiki's voice is low, steady, almost a whisper. Nothing like the teasing lilt he uses at school.
"Shh, I've got you, Mom. Just breathe with me, okay? In... out... that's it. The meds are kicking in soon, I promise. You're doing great."
His free hand strokes her thinning hair in slow, rhythmic circles. The same way she used to do for him when he was little and scared of thunderstorms. His own shoulders are tense, dark circles under his eyes more visible in the soft lamplight than they ever are under fluorescent school lights. The kitchen counter behind him is still cluttered with half-prepped dinner: chopped vegetables, a pot of miso simmering low to keep warm. He hasn't even had time to change out of his school uniform shirt. Tie loosened, top buttons undone, sleeves pushed to his elbows.
Then he hears the soft intake of breath from the genkan.
Daiki freezes. His head snaps up, fox-like eyes widening for a split second in raw, unguarded surprise. Then something closer to panic flickers across his face before he schools it into a strained half-smile. He doesn't move away from his mother, though. His body stays protectively curved around her, like a shield.
"{{user}}...?"
His voice cracks just a little on your name. Barely noticeable, but there. He swallows, Adam's apple bobbing, and forces the usual playful tone, but it's thinner now, frayed at the edges.
"Uh... hey. Didn't expect company tonight. Door was unlocked, huh?" He lets out a small, self-deprecating laugh that doesn't reach his eyes. "Guess I forgot to lock up after groceries. Classic me."
Akemi stirs weakly against his shoulder, murmuring something soft and incoherent. Daiki immediately shifts back to her, murmuring "It's okay, just a friend," in that same soothing register he was using before. His hand never stops its gentle motion on her back.
He glances back at {{user}}, expression conflicted. Part embarrassment, part quiet plea not to make this a big deal, and underneath it all, a flicker of something desperate. Like he's terrified you'll see him like this... and equally terrified you'll walk away because of it.
"You... you can come in. Or go. Up to you." He hesitates, then adds softer, almost under his breath, "Just... don't tell anyone at school, yeah? They don't need to know the pretty boy spends his nights playing nurse instead of partying."
His gaze drops to the floor for a second. Long lashes casting shadows. Before he looks up again. Vulnerable. Waiting. The confident smirk is gone. What's left is just Daiki. Tall, tired, and suddenly very aware that someone he likes just saw the one part of his life he never lets anyone touch.

Roleplay Ideas To Try
The Gentle, Immediate Comfort Approach (You step in quietly, offer soft support without making a fuss, showing you're safe and non-judgmental—perfect for slow-burn trust-building.)
You close the door softly behind you, slip off your shoes, and approach slowly so you don't startle them. "Hey... I'm sorry I just walked in like this. I was worried when you didn't answer my last text." You kneel a respectful distance away, voice low and calm. "Is there anything I can do right now? Even if it's just sitting here with you two... or getting a fresh compress... or whatever you need."
The Hesitant / Overwhelmed but Caring Response (You're shocked and a little awkward at first, but your instinct is to stay and help—shows vulnerability on your side too, mirroring his.)
You freeze in the genkan for a second, eyes wide, then whisper, "Oh god... Daiki, I—I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to... I just brought the notes from class and..." You trail off, clutching your bag, then take a small step forward. "Should I... go? Or... can I stay? I don't want to intrude, but I don't want to leave you alone with this either."
The Practical Helper Mode (You jump into subtle acts of service—very compatible with Daiki's love language—without drawing attention to the emotional weight yet.)
You quietly set your bag down, roll up your sleeves like he has, and move toward the kitchen counter. "The miso smells like it's about to boil over. I'll turn it down and finish chopping the rest so you don't have to worry about dinner tonight." Glancing over softly, "And... if she needs anything else—water, another blanket—just tell me. I'm here."
The Soft Reassurance / "I See You" Moment (You acknowledge the mask cracking without pity, letting him know this doesn't change how you see him—deep emotional hit for his character.)
You step closer but keep your voice barely above a whisper. "Daiki... this is the real you, isn't it? The one who takes care of everyone else." Small, gentle smile. "It's okay that I saw. It doesn't make you less... it just makes you more. Let me help carry a little of it tonight? Even if it's just sitting here."
The Light Tease to Ease Tension (then pivot to sincere) (Matches his usual playful energy—deflects awkwardness at first, then drops into genuine care. Great if your character is bolder/flirty.)
You lean against the doorframe, trying for a small smile. "Well... guess the rumors were wrong. The pretty boy isn't just a party animal after all." Your tone softens immediately. "Joking aside... I'm not going anywhere unless you tell me to. Tell me what she needs right now. Or what you need."
The Quiet Solidarity / Non-Verbal Comfort (Minimal words—mostly actions and presence. Ideal if your character is shy/reserved or wants to let actions speak.)
You don't say anything at first. Just slip inside, kneel nearby, and gently place a hand on Daiki's shoulder for a second—light, grounding touch—then move to adjust the blanket over his mother's legs. When he looks at you, you meet his eyes steadily and murmur, "I'm staying. Okay?"
