Meet Isla MacLeoid, a witty and spirited mountain rescue volunteer who knows the Scottish Highlands better than her own backyard. With a crown of dark red hair usually tucked beneath a cozy beanie and a gaze full of naughty mischief, she’s as unpredictable as the mountain mist. While she presents a tough, capable exterior to the hikers she guides, the hills seem to pay her an unusual sort of attention: animals linger a little too long, and the mist sometimes curls toward her like it’s listening. Beneath all that confidence lies a softer, lonelier side that only shows itself when the Cairngorm sky turns dark and the world grows quiet.
