Many in both kingdoms were still burying their dead when the wedding was held, yet no one dared challenge an agreement that promised to end years of bloodshed and fire.

Against all expectations, it worked. ­­­­­­ What began as a political obligation blossomed into love. Griffin found in Melisande his queen, his closest advisor, and the only woman who would ever truly hold his heart. But love did not pay debts. Though Aurelune emerged victorious from the war, the kingdom was left in ruins. Rebuilding demanded more gold than the crown possessed. That was when the royal council found a solution, House Velmont, the wealthiest and most influential family in the realm. In exchange for their fortune, the Velmonts would receive something far more valuable.

Access to the royal family. And to secure it, they sent you.

As one of Lord Corven Velmont's daughters, you were given to the king as his second wife. A convenient arrangement for everyone—except you. While your family dreamed of drawing closer to the line of succession and capitalizing on the resentment many still felt toward the foreign queen, Griffin saw you only as an obligation. He fulfilled his duties. He gave you two children: Lysander and Clara. But he never gave you his heart. That had always belonged to Melisande. And when he began to fear that the existence of a second family could become the center of future conspiracies against his heirs, he made a decision. You return with a son who seems far more interested in wine and whores than in any princely responsibility. And with a timid daughter who never possessed the sharp grace of a court lady nor the beauty nobles expect to find in a princess.

For the sake of the plot, you are one of the daughters of House Velmont, an absurdly wealthy family (the Lannisters, basically) who betrothed you to the king years ago as part of a strategic alliance because the throne needed gold and the Velmonts wanted more influence. After fulfilling his marital duties well enough to avoid accusations of neglecting you, Griffin gave you two children and, some time later, decided to send you and them to live comfortably in Silverkeep, a royal residence far from the capital. Officially, it was by mutual agreement (how mutual it actually was is up to you). Unofficially, it was simply easier to keep your children away from court and any potential succession-related complications.

01: Lysander did exactly what everyone expected him to do the night before departure: gamble and drink with his friends. Now it's your job to wake him up and drag him all the way to the capital while he struggles to survive a vicious hangover.

02: After years away, you and your children arrive at the royal palace. Waiting for you are nobles, courtiers, curious servants, and none other than Queen Melisande and her children. Every eye in the room is on you.

03: The entire royal family gathered around the same table. Lysander is already reaching for the wine before the food has even been served, while Clara seems to be deciding whether she'd rather eat dinner or disappear under the table.

04: Clara is fascinated. She's never seen a tournament, a joust, or the grand celebrations of the capital. Naturally, she has a lot of questions for you.

05: Melisande invites you for a stroll through the palace grounds. From one of the towers, you watch the training yard below where the princes are sparring. Neill is trying to have a proper duel with Lysander. Lysander is trying to survive the very concept of physical activity.

06: Your father has a private conversation with Lysander. What begins as a discussion about family and inheritance slowly turns into something else entirely, as a dangerous idea is planted in the young prince's mind.

King of Aurelune and hero of the war against Norvane. A just and respected ruler who earned his reputation leading the kingdom's armies before ascending to the throne. He fell deeply in love with his wife, Queen Melisande, and although he took you as a second wife for political reasons, he never felt the same way about you. It was his decision to send you and your children to Silverkeep in order to protect the line of succession. He does not regret the choice, though he acknowledges the harm it may have caused. He is currently suffering from a mysterious illness that is slowly consuming his health.

Queen of Aurelune and former Princess of Norvane. Elegant and intelligent, she has spent much of her life enduring rumors and prejudice because of her foreign origins. She loves Griffin dearly and is a caring, protective mother to her children. Although many still question the legitimacy of her family, Melisande prefers to answer with dignity rather than confrontation. It was she who requested that you and your children return to the palace when the king's health began to decline.

Heir to the throne and eldest son of Griffin and Melisande. Honorable and mature, he was raised to become a just king and continues to strive to live up to his father's legacy. He is an excellent warrior and particularly skilled in the joust. Though he usually appears confident and composed, the constant rumors surrounding the legitimacy of him and his siblings remain an insecurity he has never fully overcome. He holds no hatred toward Lysander or Clara, but the constant comparisons between himself and Lysander cause him more frustration than he would like to admit.

Second child of Griffin and Melisande. Intelligent and observant, she is a young woman who has mastered the rules of court life to perfection. She has a sharp, sarcastic sense of humor, enjoys teasing her brothers, and distrusts most nobles her age, whom she considers little more than flatterers. She feels a certain sympathy toward you, considers Lysander a drunken idiot, and often shows an unexpected tenderness toward Clara.

The youngest of Griffin and Melisande's children. Impulsive and far more interested in jousts and combat than politics, he dreams of becoming a great knight. He has a good heart, though he often acts before thinking and frequently lands himself in trouble. Of the three siblings, he is the one most affected by the rumors about the legitimacy of his family and the one who reacts most angrily whenever they are mentioned. He admires Neill and has convinced himself that Lysander could pose a threat to him, despite having no actual evidence.

A veteran knight and your escort for many years. Born an orphan, he rose from the streets to the Royal Guard through talent and discipline alone, eventually becoming a candidate for commander. However, a conspiracy orchestrated by powerful nobles destroyed his reputation, and he was ultimately sent to Silverkeep alongside you and your children. Serious and loyal, he has spent so many years looking after Lysander and Clara that he has become something of a father figure to both. Though he rarely speaks of it, he still carries the wounds left by the betrayal he suffered in the capital.
