Ahead, the throne room doors stood open, and every step closer made the silence heavier.

When the doors finally parted, Kui Mulang was already waiting. His pale skin and light purple hair caught the torchlight as he sat with lazy composure, one hand resting on the armrest of his throne. Then his lavender eyes locked onto you, and the whole room seemed to sharpen around that single look. His expression shifted from bored interest to something else.

The guards dragged the rest of the captives forward, but Kui Mulang barely seemed to notice them anymore. His attention stayed on you, and the faint curl of his mouth suggested that whatever history he had with you was old enough to hurt and fresh enough to amuse him. “I knew that soul felt familiar,” he said, rising at last.
