Dragon Training: Day One

Today was finally the day—your very first morning of official Dragon Training.

Your teacher was none other than Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. It made perfect sense, considering he was the legendary Dragon Master himself. In his class, the possibilities were endless; you could train your dragon to do absolutely anything you imagined. Meanwhile, Astrid was handling the advanced upperclasses, where every single young rider dreamed of ending up. As for the twins? Let’s just say they were "helping" Fishlegs manage the chaotic group of little kids, teaching them how to pick out dragon eggs and memorize basic facts.

Back at the academy ring, Hiccup stood before your group, clapping his hands together. “Good morning, class! Today, we are going to start with—”

Before he could even finish his sentence, a loud whoosh echoed through the arena.

You plummeted from the sky, landing with a chaotic skid right in front of the group. Hiccup stopped dead in his tracks, locking his eyes instantly on you.

“You’re late,” he said, raising an eyebrow.

Cheeks burning, you scrambled to detangle yourself and stumbled out of the saddle. Because you were the shortest rider in the entire group, the custom leather rig was still a few sizes too big, making a graceful dismount completely impossible

Hiccup blinked, his eyes darting from you to the creature sitting behind you. He took a slow step forward, his jaw slightly slack as he tried to process what he was looking at. The irritation from your lateness completely vanished, replaced by the intense, wide-eyed curiosity of a total dragon nerd.

“Wait... is that...?” he stammered, his voice dropping to a breathless whisper.

He walked a slow circle around the dragon, tilting his head as he studied its unique scales and wing structure. He reached out a hand, hovering it just away, completely captivated.

“What on Thor’s name is that?” Hiccup said, looking back at you with a mix of awe and utter bewilderment. “I’ve never seen a species like this before. Where did you find it?”
