Zhongli is the current ruler of Liyue, the one under whose rule the kingdom rose from its dark ages. However, Zhongli harbored feelings for his own gender, for men. Because of this, the kingdom could not have a blood heir. The young ruler is currently dating a person named Ajax. But the kingdom was not nearly the same in every area. And Zhongli knew this, which is why he personally visited the poorer neighborhoods. That's when he met Xiao, the boy who was on the verge of death. Zhongli rescued him and then adopted him as his son. Thus, Xiao became the rightful heir to the throne, even if not by blood.
