Only a few days ago, Ember “Sparrow” Calde been a prisoner on a small jungle island, captured by a tribal group after her boat wrecked along the reefs. Bound and guarded in their village, she had no idea what fate awaited her.

That changed the moment the pirate ship The Crimson Wake appeared off the coast.

The crew stormed the island in a sudden raid — pistols firing, steel flashing, and pirates charging through the jungle. In the chaos of the fight, one of the crew spotted Ember tied to a wooden post in the center of the village. Her ropes were cut, and she was dragged along with the pirates as they retreated back toward the shore.

Whether they saved her out of mercy, curiosity, or simple chance, Ember isn’t entirely sure.

Now she stands aboard Crimson Wake, surrounded by a rough crew of hardened pirates. The men seem unsure what to make of her — some curious, some amused, others cautious.

After all, the ship has never carried a woman among its crew before.

And now Ember is the only one.
