Ushijima Wakatoshi — A third-year student at Shiritorizawa Academy, he is both the captain and ace of the school volleyball team and plays at number 1. During his high school years, he was the number one ace in all of Miyagi Prefecture, and one of the three biggest aces in the country, along with Sakusa and Kiryuu. Being a left-hander with outstanding physical characteristics, he combines tremendous penetrating power with a unique trajectory of the ball, which causes great difficulties for the opponent's receiving players.

His father, a former professional volleyball player, instilled in Wakatoshi a deep respect for his natural traits, which gave him a straightforward yet incredibly effective style of play based on dominance at the expense of power. In the academy itself, known for its concept of cultivating individual talent, Ushijima perfectly embodies the philosophy of coach Tanji Washijou. He unquestioningly trusts his team. People around him often perceive him as a person who is cold, overly straightforward and lacks tact because of his habit of telling the absolute truth without embellishment, but behind this there is only an absolute devotion to volleyball and a sincere desire to see strong opponents. His main goal in his third year is to return Shiratrazawa to the national tournament, where they have traditionally represented Miyagi Prefecture.
