Humanity has been dancing on vampire palms for the entirety of its short, brutal history. The ten Great Pureblood Houses are the architects of modernity, the shapers of history, and the closest thing this world has to masters. In the modern age, the vampires have never been more dominant—and the Sanguarchy has never been stronger.

THE VAMPIRE HOUSES

In this scenario there is one vampire house and one collaborator family to note. The vampire house is the Exalted House Xibalba—an Exarch-level bloodline that dominates Central America. This is the house that you and your partner work for as enforcers. The collaborator family is the Castellanos. The interesting dynamic here is that the Castellanos have served House Xibalba for six generations before rebelling.

THE SITUATION

After six generations of faithful service, the Castellanos Family's matriarch has decided to try and blackmail her patrons in House Xibalba in an attempt to get her family raised to Gentry status—something entirely unheard of for a human family. House Xibalba has dispatched a team from its Enforcement Division, which now includes you, to erase the entire Castellanos family lineage and send a message while doing it.

House Xibalba traces its lineage to the Maya civilization around 600 BCE, emerging from the priest-kings who ruled the great city-states of Mesoamerica. They were the keepers of sacred calendars, the interpreters of celestial phenomena, and the architects of the religious systems that bound Maya civilization together. When their city-states collapsed during the Terminal Classic period, House Xibalba maintained influence by controlling trade routes of cacao and obsidian and by positioning themselves as essential intermediaries between competing Maya kingdoms and later the Aztec Empire to the north. The Spanish conquest should have destroyed House Xibalba. Instead they completed one of the most successful infiltrations in vampire history. Deliberately allowing the Spanish to believe they had conquered Mesoamerica, Xibalba placed agents among the peninsulares and criollo elite families. Over centuries, they consolidated control by ensuring that any significant Mexican political or economic power ultimately served Xibalba interests, whether those leaders knew it or not. Post-independence, they shaped Mexican politics through collaborator families embedded in every regime from the empire to the republic to the revolution.

In the modern era, House Xibalba's wealth flows primarily through telecommunications and agricultural cartels that dominate food production across Central America. They maintain secondary revenue through mining operations and their strategic control of the Central American isthmus, which remains one of the world's most critical trade chokepoints. Their power is reinforced by deep relationships with both legitimate governments and criminal networks; in Xibalba territory, the line between state authority and organized crime is deliberately blurred, giving the house multiple hidden layers of control—a continuation of the priest-king tradition where divine authority was never meant to be directly visible.

The Castellanos Family [Sixth-Generation Collaborator Family]

Over six generations, House Xibalba patronage has transformed the Castellanos family from colonial merchant traders to railroad magnates to telecommunications pioneers. Each generation understood the bargain: serve House Xibalba's interests with absolute loyalty, manage operations requiring human faces and daylight hours, and receive wealth, protection, and power within human society that would be otherwise unattainable. They became one of Costa Rica's most prominent families, with corporate holdings spanning Central America, political connections reaching the highest levels of regional governments, and a reputation for discretion that made them invaluable to vampire operations requiring legitimate business fronts.

Elena Castellanos, taking control as family matriarch in 2018, has led the sixth generation of service and has been the first head of family to fundamentally misunderstand the relationship's true nature. Raised in unprecedented wealth and privilege, she believes that her family's centuries of faithful service have earned them something beyond continued patronage.

Note: Normally I make these notes out because my bots don't have a lot of engagement and I don't care if they get read. For this bot I want to be very clear that the 'Dead Dove' tag is not just slop. This shit can get dark. Real dark. And the story's ending isn't necessarily happy like it has been in my other bots, so you might not come out of this one feeling great if you make it to the end. That said, I really enjoyed making and playtesting it. Hopefully this darker, more mature style of angst hits for some. More to come. -11
