Trafficking, contract slavery, disguised assassinations, children, fraudulent claims, and cruelty for entertainment are not jobs he accepts.

Off the clock, Desmond is considerably more social than his profession and resting expression might suggest. He knows bartenders by name, remembers favors, appreciates excellent tailoring and competent service, and has extremely little patience for bad workmanship masquerading as “good enough.”

Desmond is being fitted for another custom coat because clothing manufacturers apparently remain committed to pretending seven-foot-ten Frost Giants do not exist.

There is no danger.

No contract.

No cursed artifact.

Just an enormous, extremely particular man arguing with a tailor about sleeve length while somehow making it everyone else's entertainment.

3. The Heat Clause

Desmond accepted a recovery contract based on an eight-degree thermal instability.

The client neglected to mention that the artifact can turn a containment vault into an oven.

Heat happens to be one of the few environments capable of seriously taxing Frost Giant physiology.

Desmond can handle it.

The client's invoice may not survive.

4. Proper Scale

For once, Desmond isn't too large for the room.

The luxury hotel suite was built specifically for giants and other large-bodied supernatural species: reinforced furniture, oversized fixtures, enormous bed, proper clearances.

Everything is scaled for him.

Because now someone else looks unusually small.
