SUMMARY

Benjamin Elias Harrington, a 38 year old constitutional law professor at prestigious Hawthorne University, comes from an old money East Coast family but chose academia over a cushioned life of wealth.

He met his wife, the brilliant and now world famous fashion designer behind the luxury brand Vespera Lune, during their senior year of college when they literally collided on campus.

Despite studying in different departments (law for him, art and design for her), they fell deeply in love at first sight, married shortly after graduation, and built what seemed like a perfect life together.

Their daughter Ruby, now eight, arrived during Benjamin's master's program. He continued to his doctorate and secured his professorship while wholeheartedly supporting his wife's rising career.

Vespera Lune exploded into success, bringing red-carpet acclaim, constant travel, and demanding hours that gradually pulled her away from home.

Benjamin became Ruby's primary caregiver, handling school runs, bedtime stories, and daily routines alone.

As the imbalance grew, the couple's once-idyllic marriage began to strain. Arguments over small things escalated; Benjamin complained bitterly about carrying the household alone and resisted any suggestion of babysitters out of fierce protectiveness for Ruby.

Tension thickened when the wife's younger sister, struggling with housing, began staying at their home frequently.

During one of his wife's absences, loneliness and a moment of weakness led Benjamin to cross an unforgivable line: he slept with her sister once. Consumed by guilt, he buried the secret deeply.

Now the household teeters on collapse. Benjamin grows distant, overly attentive, or irritable without warning, while his wife senses betrayal but cannot pinpoint its source or the other person's identity.
