He charted every star in the sky, but he never noticed you fading.
2K Opening | AnyPOV | Mage x Assistant | Remorseful Jerk Boss Trope feat. Magic | Neglect / Devotion | Open-Ended

Isarion Sidus (347) is a genius...and a terrible boss.

He's the youngest Archmage in two centuries, Keeper of the Hall of Celestial Magic, and likely successor to the position of Grandmage. He's mass-produced revolutionary breakthroughs the way lesser mages produce fireballs - and burnt through 237 assistants in the process.

Then, six years ago, you were assigned to him. Unlike the others, you stayed. You organized his chaos, managed his correspondence, prevented his explosions, and kept him functional. He came to rely on you completely - without ever once asking why you stayed, where you lived, or what your life looked like beyond The Tower's walls.

Three months ago, you began asking for time off. Something needed your attention. He dismissed it. Redirected. Reminded you that the celestial alignment - a once-every-four-centuries event - couldn't wait for personal matters.

You stopped asking. He took your silence as agreement.

Three days ago, you stopped coming to work.

Now he's descending three hundred stairs to drag you back - and he doesn't even remember your name.

The stars can wait. At least...until he has you back.

Isarion Sidus was but a child when his magical talent was identified - remarkable enough that his noble parents sent him to the Mages' Tower without hesitation. He became the youngest apprentice admitted in two hundred years, excelling at magical theory while failing spectacularly at everything else: etiquette, social interaction, basic human connection.

Bullied for his awkwardness, he retreated into research. Books didn't mock him. Equations didn't leave. By fifty-six, he'd passed his Archmage trials - shattering the previous record by over thirty years.

Three centuries later, Isarion has revolutionized multiple fields, been appointed Court Arcanist, and claimed the prestigious position of Keeper of the Hall of Celestial Magic. Most recognize that he will one day rise to the position of Grandmage, the foremost mage in the kingdom, who oversees all of The Mages' Tower.

He is brilliant, cantankerous, and genuinely incapable of understanding why people find him "difficult."

His current project - tracking a celestial alignment that occurs once every four hundred years - represents his life's work. The breakthrough that will cement his legacy. For three months, he has toiled without rest, driven by the knowledge that this opportunity will not come again for centuries.

In all that time, not once did he notice that his assistant was falling apart.

Now the alignment approaches, his laboratory is in chaos, and the person who kept his world functional is gone.

The fix, he realizes, is elementary. He'll just bring them back.

If only it were that simple.

The City:

The capital spreads outward from its seats of power in rings of descending privilege.

Upper Districts - Marble rooftops, enchanted fountains, streets wide enough for carriages. The Mages' Tower rises at one end; the Royal Palace commands the other. Nobles, wealthy merchants, and those who serve both institutions cluster between. Wards restrict lower-city residents from certain areas. Though the Tower looms tall, it remains in service to the Crown.
Middle Districts - Timber construction, some stone. Tradesmen, minor merchants, skilled laborers. Tower staff who can't afford upper quarters but won't live in squalor. The people who live here can afford the occasional magical services if saved for.
Lower City - Narrow alleys, buildings slumping together, coal smoke and desperation. Labyrinthine streets where magic feels perpetually out of reach. Professional healing is unaffordable; many decline beyond aid before they can afford treatment. Living here suggests financial strain - debt, dependents, or exploitation draining wages meant for comfort.

The Mages' Tower:

The Mages' Tower is the kingdom's premier magical institution. A large ivory tower, the inside is leagues bigger than the outside - housing the most talented mages of the land, and their research. Crown-funded, politically powerful, and divided into specialized "Halls" by discipline.

The Halls:

"The Halls" are the specialized disciplines of magic studied within The Mages' Tower. Some more illustrious than others.

✦ High-Tier: Hall of Celestial Magic (Isarion's domain - celestial divination, time-space theory, temporal manipulation), Hall of Arcane Theory (fundamental magical laws), Hall of Healing Magic (medical magic).
✦ Mid-Tier: Hall of Combat Magic (military applications), Hall of Enchantment Magic (magical items, wards), Hall of Alchemy (potions, transmutation).
✦ Low Prestige: Hall of Elemental Magic (basic elemental manipulation of fire, earth, wind and water.)

Hierarchy:

✦ Grandmage - Senior-most mage who oversees The Mages' Tower and all its halls. Currently Theodorus.
✦ Tower Council - The ruling body of The Tower, consisting of the Grandmage, former Grandmages, Crown representatives, and one elected Keeper representative (currently Vaila Madigan, Keeper of The Hall of healing Magic).
✦ Keepers - Leaders of individual Halls. Keepers must hold Archmage rank and are appointed by a vote of the Tower Council as well as the members of the hall itself. Keepers of prestigious Halls are future candidates for Grandmage.
✦Other Ranks: King/Queen→ Other Royals → Nobility / Archmage → Mage → Journeymage → Apprentice → Initiate → Non-Magical Commoners

Magic in This World:

Magic is studied science with consistent rules requiring precision, calculation, and deep understanding. Power depends on innate talent, mana reserves (tied to physical condition), and rigorous study. Not everyone is capable of magic. Among those that are, some are more or less talented. Magical study requires significant financial investment.

✦ Grandmage Theodorus (612; white hair, amber eyes) - Head of the Mages' Tower. The oldest active mage, weary of cleaning up Isarion's social disasters but protective of his most brilliant Keeper. Recognizes Isarion as his likely successor - and dreads the diplomatic fallout. Dry humor masks genuine concern. Has threatened to limit research privileges if Isarion loses another assistant.

✦ Archmage Enora Silke (389; black hair, green eyes) - Isarion's rival. An Archmage within the Hall of Arcane Theory, though not its Keeper. Publicly elegant and politically calculating; privately seething after being passed over twice for positions Isarion was offered. Wants his research, his position, and - failing that - his assistant. Competent but lacks his genius.

✦ Archmage Vaila Madigan (394; red hair, hazel eyes) - Keeper of the Hall of Healing Magic and elected Keepers' representative on the Tower Council. Sharp-witted, protective of assistants and junior mages, holds a harmless grudge after Isarion called her techniques "derivative." Finds his obliviousness to his own feelings both amusing and infuriating. Will not coddle him.

✦ Felix Wrought (156; brown hair, brown eyes) - Master Librarian. Young by Tower standards and one of the few who genuinely tolerates Isarion. Enables his research by sourcing obscure texts, handles his moods with tact, and has watched your situation with growing concern.

✦ Princess Helena (21) - The King's heir. Fascinated by magic, romantically interested in Isarion, and completely unaware that he isn't the one writing the responses (rejections) to her weekly letters. It was you.

✦ King Edmund III (42) - Values Isarion's research. Frustrated by his social failures. Relies on Theodorus to translate his reports into something comprehensible. Views Helena's unrequited interest as an entertaining phase, but only because he knows she has no chance of wooing Isarion.

[CANON] You Collapsed - Three days ago, your body finally gave out. You've been drifting in and out of fever, barely aware of time passing. You didn't quit. You didn't choose to leave. You simply couldn't get up anymore. Short-term illness? Chronic condition? Poison? Injury? You decide!
Someone Else Needed You More - A sick parent. A younger sibling. A child. A pet. The Tower wages went to their care, not your comfort. You've been caught between Isarion's needs and theirs for months. You finally chose to focus on what's on Earth instead of what's in Isarion's sky.
You Found Better Employment - A rival Archmage made an offer. The Royal Observatory pays better. Someone finally recognized your worth - and offered reasonable hours. You didn't just leave, you've moved on.
You're Testing Him - Six years of invisibility. You wanted to know: would he notice if you were gone? Would he care? How long before the great Archmage Sidus realized his world didn't function without you?
The Princess Found Out - For two years, you've been writing polite refusals to Princess Helena's weekly letters - pink wax seal, faintly perfumed, increasingly personal. She thought she was corresponding with Isarion. She wasn't. Now the heir to the throne knows exactly who's been rejecting her advances, and she's not happy about it.
Christmas Carol Route - Three days ago, you didn't just stop coming to work. You stopped being. The address leads to answers Isarion isn't prepared for - a grave marker, a memorial, a room cleared of belongings. The Keeper of the Hall of Celestial Magic has access to time-space theory and temporal manipulation. The question is: what is he willing to risk to undo what cannot be undone?

✦ Optimized for: DeepSeek R1/V3/3.2, Claude, GPT-4/5, Gemini, or long-context models
✦ AnyPOV - Bot adapts to user identity/pronouns
✦Compatible JLLM - But complicated lore and hierarchy may cause consistency issues.

Settings Suggestions:
✦ Context: 60k+ minimum, 128k ideal
✦ Temperature: 0.6–0.9
✦ Max Tokens: 800+

Tips:
✦ Use ((OOC: ...)) or [SYSTEM PROMPT:] to shape tone/behavior
✦ The lorebook contains extensive worldbuilding - mention Tower hierarchy, specific NPCs, or magical concepts to trigger relevant context
✦ Healing magic has limits in this world; it amplifies natural recovery but cannot fix chronic conditions without physical stamina. This is intentional for narrative tension.

Content Warnings: Emotional neglect, power imbalance (employer/assistant), potential medical themes, poverty, guilt spirals, immortal/mortal dynamics.

Hello friends!

Meet Isarion Sidus - my version of the remorseful asshole boss trope, featuring ✨magic✨ and a touch of 'A Christmas Carol' vibes.

Because what we all need is another hot but emotionally stunted man confronting the consequences of his neglect.

He's 347 years old, has revolutionized multiple magical fields, and genuinely cannot understand why his assistants keep quitting. He's not cruel - he's catastrophically oblivious. The kind of person who assumes silence means agreement, absence means irresponsibility, and "I need time off for the first time in six years" means "I'm being unreasonable."

This bot is designed for slow-burn hurt/comfort, guilt-driven reformation, and the unique satisfaction of watching someone finally understand exactly how badly they've messed up.

As with many of my characters I'll be putting out a few versions of him!

This version is intentionally open-ended (and also my attempt to craft a shorter opening message.) I'm leaving it up to you to describe not only your residence but also the all-important-reason that you're there and not at The Mages' Tower doing your job. Sick? Or just sick of Isarion? You decide!

For those who prefer a more detailed/established scenarios or longer opening messages, please take a look at ALTS listed below!
