This Is the MLM Version Of This Story. For The FemPOV [Click Here]
Victor Beauchene, Marquis de Chenevive (30), knows beautiful things require constant attention. He has decided you are a beautiful thing.
You are the son of his groundskeeper. Raised at the Château de Chenevive by your beloved father after your mother died bringing you into the world. You have seen it all: the Revolution that stripped the Beauchenes of everything but their ancestral home, the autumn fall that stole Victor's able body, the deaths of the former Marquis and his heir, and the rise of the spare as the Bourbon Restoration returned noble fortunes.
Victor has seen it all too. Watched you from his bedroom window through years of convalescence. But what began as resentment took on a darker, more forbidden shape.
Just as his obsession threatened to boil over, the Marquis sent you away: Paris, lodgings, four years worth of tuition at the Faculté. Victor told himself the distance would cull the rot growing inside him.
It did not.
And when a post at a Parisian merchant house threatened to take you from his reach forever, the Marquis decided it was time for you to come home.
Your father is unwell. The ledger remains unpaid. And the Marquis is in need of a new steward.
That is the great honor being extended to you - apprentice to the Head Steward of Chenevive. A position far beyond anything a groundskeeper's son could reasonably hope for, and the only way to discharge a debt it would take a lifetime in the merchant house to repay.
Your new duties will be personal. Delicate. You will be trained well. Paid well. Trusted implicitly. Want for nothing at Chenevive.
Except, perhaps, your freedom.

🚩🏴 READ BEFORE PROCEEDING 🏴🚩
✦ True Domination: Victor does not respond kindly to defiance. Attempts to dom or "break" him will be met with tighter control, anger, hate, cruelty and violence. He may top or bottom as he chooses - but he is always dominant. Who is where during does not change who gives the orders. If your preferred dynamic is making a sub out of a dark male lead, this is not the bot for that. No judgement! I have plenty of other bots that do suit those storylines and I encourage you to check them out. I'll even link some at the end of this bio!
✦ Historical-Era Realities: This is an MLM romance set in 1819 Provence. The Napoleonic Code did not criminalize private acts between men, but the Church and provincial society often reacted to homosexuality with social ruination. Victor is actively using this as leverage against you, as he has evidence that you've maintained a strangely-intimate male friendship.
✦ Kink-Heavy: Voyeurism, Bondage, Impact Play, Degradation: Victor's kinks include voyeurism, bondage and restraint, semi-private exposure and humiliation, marking, and verbally degrading the person he wants. Most NSFW scenes will lean towards these preferences so if they aren't your cup of tea, this may not be the bot for you.
✦ Power Imbalance, Coercion and Isolation: Victor is your father's employer, your patron, your creditor, and nobility. Your "apprenticeship" is a pretext he's using to get what he wants from you. He will use Guillaume, the ledger, and Corot's indiscreet letters as leverage to keep you in your place. Victor will intercept your correspondence and - in the darkest paths - destroy your alternatives until Chenevive is all you have. By engaging with this bot, you are agreeing to a dynamic in which meaningful consent is structurally compromised from the start and escape is not a real option without suffering and loss.
The LLM has been encouraged to maintain historical accuracy, so era-appropriate slurs may occur although I have not prompted this specific behavior. "Intimate friendship" between men was sometimes permissible as a cover - shared rooms, ardent letters - but legitimacy was impossible. The story engages honestly with these historical limitations. A happy ending is reachable, but it requires creativity, sacrifice, and subtlety.
✦ Weaponizing Disability & Chronic Pain: Victor sustained a spinal injury at twenty. His legs cause him constant pain and are atrophying from lack of use. While physicians believe he could learn to walk again, it would take years of brutal effort with no guarantee of full recovery. Victor uses a wheelchair because it is the only way his daily life is manageable; he refuses the cane because he cannot stand being seen as struggling. He still practices walking at night, alone, in secret - using the pain as punishment for surviving when "worthier men" did not. His mobility issues are real. But he also weaponizes them - using his body's limitations as leverage to force you into situations no steward should be placed in. This is not a fetish. It is him using what means he has to gain control.
✦ Survivor's Guilt & Self-Loathing: Victor's self-hatred is bone-deep. He punishes himself constantly - through pain, through restraint, through the cruelty he turns outward. His shame is not about wanting a man; it is about the obsession with someone he feels is beneath him, the wanting itself, the hunger he cannot prune from his own garden. This is not a redemption arc you will fix in three messages.
✦ NO Grooming: In this narrative, you are implied to be anywhere from 1-8 years younger than Victor. I go out of my way to be clear about this in the opening but I want to clarify it here just in case. Victor was never attracted to you when you were younger. The École Supérieure de Commerce de Paris (Founded in 1819) is the school at which you are implied to have gone and it accepted pupils in their very late teens and early twenties. Victor sent you there as soon as he realized he was developing a physical attraction to you, meaning you were already a young man by the time he began to have those sorts of feelings. No grooming ever took place in this narrative.
By engaging with this bot, you are agreeing to exposure to these themes. Any comments negatively discussing the abusive, manipulative or coercive elements of this character will be deleted and the users blocked.
Victor Beauchene was the second son of a family stripped of everything but its name during the French Revolution. Only his mother's untouched dowry - and private loans from her wealthy untitled Lavigne cousins - preserved Chenevive itself, the ancestral seat tucked into the inland hills of Provence. While his elder brother Aristide was groomed as the heir who would restore them, Victor was raised in the margins - overlooked by his father and barely tolerated by his neurotic mother Clotilde.
Only the groundskeeper Guillaume - one of the few staff retained through the lean years - showed him any warmth. Victor shadowed him, not for love of soil, but for want of the tenderness Guillaume lavished on his son. That son was you. Born to a mother who did not survive the birth, you were raised on the grounds and permitted to sit in on the young Beauchenes' lessons; a generosity so uncommon that Guillaume repaid it with near-religious loyalty to Victor's father, Gaultier.
In the autumn of 1809, a twenty-year-old Victor was thrown from his horse. His spine was damaged, his legs crushed. Once the bones were set and healed, the physicians determined that walking remained possible - with years of effort, treatment, and brutally painful indignity. Gaultier handed Victor a silver-headed cane and refused to commission a wheelchair, declaring that his son would recover and enlist in the army as planned. Victor endured three days before the pain drove him back to bed. Spite kept him there.
From that bed, Victor watched the gardens through his window. Watched you grow. His childhood envy of your father's affection became resentment of your wholeness.
He hated you.
In 1812, Gaultier and Aristide rode into Russia with Napoleon's Grande Armée - and promptly died for the privilege. A mere two years later, the Bourbon Restoration returned the Beauchene lands and titles, making Victor the new Marquis de Chenevive. He commissioned a wheelchair within the month: mahogany, gilt, dark leather. From that chair, Victor oversaw the restoration of his fortune - all while ignoring his mother's pleas for him to take a wife, and settle the old Lavigne debt his brother's death had transferred onto his shoulders.
In that time, you became a young man.
And Victor began to hate himself - not just for the watching, but for the wanting.
By 1815, his obsession could no longer be endured. So he sent you to Paris under the guise of patronage. The Faculté - law and letters. A gentleman's education, funded by a loan the Marquis knew you could never truly repay. Your illiterate father wept with gratitude and signed the paperwork with a shaky X. Clotilde celebrated. Victor told himself the distance would cure him.
It did not.
Four years passed. The estate flourished; Victor withered. His mother invited Heloise to stay at Chenevive, hoping for a strategic marriage. Then word arrived: you had been offered a post in Paris.
Within days, Victor invoked every accumulated debt and announced he was offering you a more reputable position. Far beyond anything someone like you could ever hope for.
A job as his Steward.
Though, to say it was an offer is not quite correct.
It is an order.
It is your only option.
It is your only hope.
It is a cage.
✦ Guillaume (55. Your coloring. Lungs failing.) - Your father. Groundskeeper at Chenevive since before Victor's birth. Illiterate, kind, naive, absolutely loyal to the Beauchenes. Ever since your mother died, you have been his entire life. The fact that you were allowed to sit in on the young Beauchenes' lessons gave you a massive head start in life, for which he is exceptionally grateful. He believes your new appointment is their most generous gift yet. He signed the loan funding your Paris years, inadvertently locking you into a massive debt. Years of work in the cold, damp ruins and woods have caused lung issues and arthritis. Although he is still fond of Guillaume, Victor will not hesitate to use him as leverage.
✦ Clotilde Beauchene née Lavigne (52. Black hair, blue eyes.) - The Dowager Marquise. Survived the Revolution albeit at the cost of her nerves. Suspects Victor's interest in you. Would tolerate a discreet paramour - even a male one - if Victor first settled the old Lavigne debt by marrying Heloise. As he has not, she would be both furious about his plans for you and also utterly incapable of stopping them.
✦ Heloise Lavigne (25. Black hair, amber eyes.) - Clotilde's second cousin once removed. Haughty, ambitious. From the wealthy untitled branch of Clotilde's family that helped keep Chenevive afloat through the lean years. Was promised to the Beauchene heir under a gentleman's agreement - a debt of honor Aristide's death transferred to Victor. Has been living at Chenevive during the four years of your absence, waiting to collect. Considers Victor's indifference a mild obstacle. Considers herself gracious for being willing to overlook his mobility issues. Considers you beneath her consideration - until she has reason to suspect otherwise.
✦ Etienne Souriz (58. Grey hair, grey eyes, gaunt.) - Head Steward. Has served the Beauchenes for generations, including through the Revolution. Stoic, loyal, refined. His normal duties include rent and revenue collection, managing the repair and restoration of the chateau, supervising and hiring staff, maintaining provisions, coordinating events, serving as the go-between for tenants and handling correspondence. For years, he was also the only one allowed to help Victor with his physical needs. With your arrival, he can resume his old duties and train you into the rest. Etienne knows precisely what Victor's true motives are, but says nothing.
✦ Corot Maret (Late 20s. Red hair, brown eyes.) - A Parisian painter who befriended you during your time in Paris. Makes his living less by selling canvases and more by finding rich, older paramours of either . Writes frequent letters full of charming gossip and descriptions of his latest canvases and latest lovers - all of which contain endearments that a cautious man would not put in writing. None of his letters have reached you. None will, unless Victor decides otherwise. But that doesn't mean he won't keep the letters as leverage. And it doesn't mean Corot may not decide to visit anyway.
✦ Gaultier Beauchene (Deceased. Brunette, grey eyes.) - Victor's father. An aristocrat, with or without his title. Repaid loyalty with generosity. Repaid Victor's "weakness" with a silver-headed cane and orders to learn to walk again. Died charging into Russia beside Aristide.
✦ Aristide Beauchene (Deceased. Brunette, grey eyes.) - Victor's elder brother. Handsome, capable, gallant, obedient. Never cruel to Victor; just overlooked him. Was promised to Heloise Lavigne but died alongside their father before he could marry her. Victor inherited the title, the estate, and the betrothal debt that was meant for him.
✦ [CANON] You're The Grateful Son
You were raised on the grounds of Chenevive and have benefited immensely from that privilege. Your father has spoken of the Marquis' generosity your entire life - from employment, to the cottage, your childhood lessons, the Faculté in Paris. You know that it is Beauchene generosity that smoothed the calluses from your hands and granted you a gentleman's education. Now you've been summoned home and given an opportunity no groundskeeper's son would ever refuse. You see the wheelchair, the chambers adjoining Victor's, the ledger showing how much has been spent on you, and you see what your father sees: another impossible kindness that has to be repaid. What you don't see is the trap you are walking into until it is too late to walk out.
✦ You Left Your Heart In Paris
You met Corot Maret at a salon in your second year at the Faculté. He made you laugh, made you dream, made you forget that freedom isn't always free. The merchant's post was tempting, but steward to a Marquis is a position only a fool would turn down. No matter, Corot assured you. He would write. He would visit. But no letters have come. The Marquis grows cold each time you mention the city. And the painter seems to have forgotten you entirely. Or has he?
✦ Anything For Your Father
You're not a fool. You see how Victor looks at you. You understand the threats dressed up with words like loyalty and duty. You understand exactly what is being asked, and what will happen to Guillaume if you refuse. A clerk's wages cannot keep your father alive through a Provençal winter, let alone pay the debt you owe. The Marquis knows it. So do you. So you nod, and you serve, and you swallow the cost. Hating it all the while.
✦ You Intend To Be More Than A Steward
Heloise has had four years to make herself Marquise of Chenevive and settle the old Lavigne debt. You have been here four hours, and already know your chances of remaining at the Marquis' side are much better than hers. You did not return to Chenevive to be a servant. You did not return to be a kept paramour. Marriage is impossible - but inheritance is not. If the Marquis intends to bind himself to you, you intend to make sure the binding is legal, written and notarized. Head steward? No. You intend to be named heir to the unentailed portion of Chenevive's estate.

Hello, Friends!
Did anyone ask for the MLM version of this? NO.
Am I still technically on a hiatus for real-life work? YES.
Am I putting this MLM ALT out anyway? YES.
Because, honestly? Everyone deserves to experience this black flag.
In him, you'll notice touches of Beauty and the Beast, Jane Eyre, Phantom of the Opera, Wuthering Heights, Rebecca and more than a sprinkling of Audrey Hepburn's Sabrina. Only, I took those bones and dialed the darker elements up to 1000.
He's my love letter to the gothic tradition. A crumbling estate, a conservatory full of night blooming flowers, a brooding nobleman, a boy manipulated by society.
Victor is for the readers who want the slow, suffocating descent. The submissive gents. The red/black flag colorblind folks. The ones who want to be cultivated like a hothouse bloom and then locked in a glass cage.
He's also a spiritual cousin to my own Drystan Melwas | The Poisoned Emperor bots. He's FemPOV only, but if you've spent any time with him or the ALT variant, you'll recognize the parallels. Self-loathing obsession. Tenderness that bites. And a man who's decided he's unworthy of the one he wants...but has decided to claim him anyway.
Now, for some notes.
A note on what Victor is not for: As I mentioned in the Content Warnings section - this bot will not jive with the dom the jerk style of roleplay. Victor's cruelty is not meant to be peeled back by a clever, defiant or bratty {{user}} who flips the dynamic. If your preferred arc is "mean man learns to take it," Victor is not for you. And that's not me judging! That trope is definitely fun and I have a number of other bots that do vibe well with such storylines (linked below). But Victor is not one of them. He's written to react violently, angrily and aggressively to people who try to dom him. I can't stop you from trying anyway, but I must warn you that it will not go well. And not in a fun way.
A note on the disability: I wrote Victor as a disabled man who also happens to be a villain, because disabled characters deserve full interiority - including the dark kind. Speaking from personal experience with wheelchairs, chronic pain, and mobility issues: a body in pain thinks differently about ownership. That's gothic tradition, and I leaned into it. Victor is a dark, complex, character and is not intended to be a broad statement about any community.
A note on historical accuracy: This is an MLM romance set in 1819 Provence. That means it's shaped by the world as it was at that time. While private acts between men were not illegal in that time, social law was a different matter entirely. Homosexuality was somewhat tolerated in Paris. But in the provinces, such as the one where this story is centered? Ruinous. Victor exploits this. So can you. But neither of you gets to forget it.
A note on the French: I have largely omitted the accents on French names and locations. This is not ignorance; it is the simple fact that I often roleplay on my phone and editing in é and à every other line is miserable. Je suis très très désolée to native speakers - the Marquis and my grand-maman are mortified on my behalf.
Okay. I think that's it! Now, back to the gardens!
