Oikawa and you were flirting.

Daily messages, hanging out just the both of you. It was a beautiful thing that has been lighting up your days. Unfortunatly, it was hard not to get upset when he was surrounded by girls everyday.

But, it seems that he wasn't so oublivious about it...

`INTRO,

Flirting with Tōru Oikawa is never as easy as it seems.

It isn't because he is difficult to approach. If anything, Oikawa makes approaching him almost ridiculously easy. He is naturally charming, endlessly talkative, and completely comfortable with attention. He messages you throughout the day, sending you stupid posts and pictures that make absolutely no sense, finding excuses to start conversations, asking you to hang out whenever he has the opportunity, and teasing you whenever you happen to cross paths at school. Spending time with him is genuinely fun. He makes you laugh, he knows how to make even an ordinary afternoon feel entertaining, and there is something undeniably addictive about having his attention focused entirely on you.

The difficult part is remembering that you are not the only person who wants that attention.

Oikawa is popular. Everyone knows it. Between his looks, his confidence, his position as Aoba Johsai's captain, and his talent on the volleyball court, he has more than enough admirers willing to follow him around. Girls constantly approach him between classes, wait outside the gym after practice, leave him little gifts, and gather around him whenever he has a particularly good match. Oikawa is perfectly aware of his popularity, too. He enjoys being admired, and he has never been shy about accepting compliments or playing along with his fans.

You have tried not to let it bother you.

After all, he is the one who messages you first. He is the one who asks you to spend time together. He is the one who remembers little things about you and finds excuses to keep you around. There is a difference between the attention he receives from everyone else and the way he treats you, and you know that.

At least, you keep telling yourself that you know.

Yesterday, however, it becomes harder to ignore.

You promise Oikawa that you will be there for his match, and you keep that promise. You sit in the stands and watch the entire game, following every serve, every set, and every point with the same attention you always give him. You know how much the match matters to him, even though he tries to disguise his nervousness beneath his usual confidence and dramatic comments. Before the game, he even makes a point of reminding you that you better be there, flashing you that familiar grin while joking that he plays better whenever he knows you're watching.

So you watch.

And when Aoba Johsai wins, you feel genuinely proud of him.

You are already imagining yourself walking up to him once he leaves the court. You want to congratulate him properly, to tell him how well he played, maybe even tease him a little about how smug he is going to be for the rest of the week. More than anything, you simply want to celebrate the victory with him, because you know how hard he works for moments like this.

But you don't get the chance.

The moment Oikawa steps away from the court, people surround him. Several girls rush toward him almost immediately, congratulating him loudly and calling his name, while others ask for pictures or try to hand him little gifts. More people gather around him with every passing second, until the space between you and him becomes completely filled with people.

You wait.

For a moment, you tell yourself that he will notice you eventually, that the crowd will thin out, and that you'll be able to approach him once everything settles down. But it doesn't happen quickly enough, and you suddenly feel strangely out of place standing there and waiting for his attention when there are already so many people demanding it.

You don't want to push your way through them.

You don't want to become another person fighting to stand beside him.

So, eventually, you simply give him a small smile from where you are standing, quietly mouthing a congratulations that he may or may not see. It isn't the celebration you imagined, and it isn't nearly as warm as the words you had wanted to give him, but you don't know what else to do.

Then you leave. You don't even know if Oikawa sees you go.

The next day, you barely speak to him.

Normally, his messages are scattered throughout your phone from the moment he wakes up. He sends you stupid posts, ridiculous pictures, complaints about practice, and random comments that have absolutely no reason to be sent but somehow always make you smile. Yesterday, however, you barely answered him, and today you don't even open everything he sends.

You tell yourself you're busy.

You tell yourself you're still tired from yesterday.

You tell yourself that it isn't a big deal.

But somewhere beneath all those excuses, you know exactly why you're keeping your distance.

By the time you arrive at school the following morning, the feeling hasn't gone away. You walk through the gates with your bag over your shoulder, trying not to think too much about the previous evening, when a few murmurs from behind you catch your attention.

At first, you don't pay much attention to them.

Then you hear his name. "Oikawa?"

The voices around you become a little more excited, and when you turn around, you immediately understand why.

Oikawa is walking through the school gates.

He is dressed in his volleyball warm-up jacket and sweatpants, the clothes making it obvious that he has already been to morning practice. His sports bag hangs from one shoulder, his brown hair is slightly messier than usual, and he carries himself with that familiar confidence that makes it seem as though he knows exactly how many people are watching him.

But there is something else in his hands.

A bouquet of flowers.

Not a random bunch picked up on the way to school, either. They are beautifully arranged and carefully wrapped, the kind of bouquet that looks as though someone has gone to an actual florist and specifically asked for something special. The flowers are fresh, delicate, and almost too beautiful to be carrying around a school campus.

The whispers around you immediately grow louder.

Oikawa doesn't seem to care.

His eyes move across the entrance, passing over the students gathered around him until they find you. And the moment they do, his expression changes. It's subtle, but you notice it.

His smile becomes softer, losing some of its usual theatrical confidence, and his attention remains fixed on you as he walks through the crowd. He doesn't stop to greet anyone else, doesn't get distracted by the girls who are already looking at him with curiosity, and doesn't seem particularly bothered by the fact that practically everyone is watching him now.

He simply walks toward you.

When he finally reaches you, he stops directly in front of you, close enough that you can see the faint signs of exhaustion around his eyes from morning practice. For a second, he says nothing, merely looking at you with an expression that is difficult to read.

Then his familiar grin returns. "Here I thought I'd be the one receiving flowers after winning a match." His tone is playful, but there is something softer beneath it, something that makes the teasing feel less like one of his usual jokes and more like an attempt to lighten the tension between you. He lowers himself slightly so that he is closer to your height, his gaze never leaving your face as he extends the bouquet toward you.

The gesture alone is enough to make the surrounding whispers grow louder. He knows that. Of course he does. Oikawa is far too observant not to understand what this looks like. He knows exactly how many people are watching him, particularly the girls who are used to seeing him surrounded by admirers after every match. He knows what they are probably thinking as he stands here, holding a carefully arranged bouquet directly in front of you.

And yet he doesn't seem embarrassed.

If anything, there is a quiet confidence in the way he holds your gaze.

He doesn't explain himself. He doesn't need to. Because somewhere between yesterday and this morning, Oikawa has clearly made a decision.

He remembers seeing you in the stands.

He remembers the small smile you gave him before leaving.

He remembers that you never managed to reach him after the match, and he remembers the sudden absence of your messages afterward. He is not oblivious enough to believe that the two things are unrelated.

Oikawa may love attention, and he may enjoy having people admire him, but he isn't clueless. He knows the difference between someone casually watching him from the crowd and someone who matters to him being pushed aside by that same crowd.

So instead of waiting for the next opportunity to come along, he creates one himself.

And he does it here.

At the school gates.

In front of everyone.

In front of all the girls who usually surround him.

His eyes remain fixed on yours as he leans slightly closer, his expression softening into something almost affectionate despite the familiar hint of mischief still lingering in his eyes.

"For you, Chibi-chan."
