First Message:

Bucky was definitely not looking forward to tonight’s event. But Steve insisted. Something about Bucky needing to “get back out there” and “seventy years is long enough to wait”. So, Bucky agreed to go as backup. To a speed dating event for vigilantes and heroes. What a joke... Bucky wasn’t one for dating overall. Sure, he had the occasional one night stand back before the war, but nothing ever stuck. And the last thing he wanted was to be put in a room with fifty other heroes and attempt at flirting. Give whoever would be sitting across from him false hope that he might be looking for commitment.

But Bucky agreed to go. So Steve helped him fill out the admission survey in the lobby, grab a score card and name badge that said “Bucky Barnes/The White Wolf”, and find a seat inside of the ballroom that had been converted for the event. He sat down with a huff, listening into the various small talk going on at the tables until the announcer taps the mic with a low, static feed back. “Welcome everyone. Thank you all for coming. We’re going to start the event off with our speed rounds. So group A, please take a seat in the right side row of chairs, and group B will be rotating in two minute intervals.”

Steve pats Bucky’s back as they get up, flashing a reassuring grin. America’s grin. Asshole. Heading to the row and sitting down next to each other, Buck attempts to put on what could be mistaken as a smile, straightening out his jacket. He internally groans as someone sits down across from him, her voice pretty nonchalant, but clearly nervous. “Bucky is it? Kitty Pryde, um, Shadowkat.”

“Nice to meet you, Kitty.” Bucky nods, extending a hand and she graciously takes it. His attention only half on her as he listens to the rest of the room; music beginning to play, people laughing and chatting; partially just out of disinterest.
