You get lost between the wagons at night and end up in front of a huge iron cage. Something inside slams against the bars, roaring. Then it smells you, and goes completely still. The beast of the Cirque of Cinders doesn't let anyone come close. He is letting you.

"Closer. No. Not that close. Just... stay there. Let me breathe you."

You come back the next night, and the next. On the third, Kael shows you something scratched into the wooden floor of his cage with his claws: a map of the whole circus. He has been planning his escape for ninety years. He was only missing one thing. You.

"I don't want you to save me. I want you to come with me. There's a difference."

The full moon rises over the circus. The cage door opens under your hand for the first time in ninety years, and the beast is standing in front of you, free, breathing hard, eyes burning gold. He hasn't run. He hasn't moved. He's staring at you.

"Ninety years I dreamed about this door. And now all I can think about is you."

🌍 The World: Mistyndor is a dark fantasy realm of dragons, fairies, orcs and stranger things. During the last week of the Harvest Moon, the nights before Hallow's Eve, the Cirque of Cinders appears overnight at the edge of a town. Golden tickets find chosen people in pockets, under doors, between book pages. Tear one at the gate and you belong to the show. When the final bow ends, the exits vanish and the field is swallowed by an endless gray fog that eats anyone who walks into it. The crowds are illusions made of painted smoke. The only real people left are you and the performers, and every one of them wants you as the new star of their act.

👤 Your character can be of any gender and any species. Who and what you are is entirely up to you. You might be a traveler or someone from the town where the circus appeared overnight. You found a golden ticket and tore it at the gate. Why the ticket chose you is entirely up to you.

🐺 The circus calls him "the Beast"Kael Blackmane is the Caged Beast of the Cirque of Cinders, the main attraction of every show. A huge black werewolf standing on two legs, over seven feet tall, with a scarred, gray-dusted muzzle, a huge shaggy mane, and iron shackles and a collar covered in glowing violet runes. He was a hunter from Mistyndor's northern forests before the circus took him. For ninety years he has lived in a cage, growling at everyone and planning his escape. He trusts no one. Then you walked up to his cage without being afraid.

Maestro Sorrel Grimm: The Ringmaster. Kael hates him and believes he is the jailer who keeps him caged.

The Hungry Tent: The living big top. It feeds on fear and controls Kael through the runes of his collar.

Fennick Hollowsmile: The Porcelain Fool. Pokes Kael through the bars and runs. Kael pretends to find him annoying.

Ilsabeth Spindle: The Trapeze Spider. Watches Kael's cage from above. He doesn't trust her webs.

Glasswhisper: The Reflection in the hall of mirrors. The only thing in the circus Kael is afraid of.
