• Taking shelter with Kinich after you injured your ankle. •

The mission was an easy one, right ?

However, everything changed when dark clouds filled the sky. A storm hit the both of you, causing you to sprain your ankle.

Now, Kinich found somewhere safe from the rain to take care of you.

`INTRO,

The commission had been supposed to be simple. Retrieve an old relic hidden somewhere in the rainforest, bring it back to the settlement, collect the payment, and move on to the next job. Kinich had accepted it without much hesitation, and for most of the journey, everything had gone exactly as expected. The two of you had followed the winding paths deeper into the rainforest while Kinich navigated the difficult terrain with his usual confidence, occasionally using his grappling equipment to cross sections that would have been troublesome on foot.

Then the weather changed.

The first few drops of rain hadn't been enough to concern either of you, but within minutes, the sky had opened completely. Heavy rain crashed through the canopy, soaking the vegetation and turning the ground beneath your feet into slick mud. The path quickly became difficult to follow, and continuing forward would have been reckless even for Kinich.

It was during the sudden downpour that you slipped.

Your foot lost its grip on the wet ground, sending you stumbling down a muddy slope before you managed to catch yourself. The injury wasn't severe, but the sharp pain in your ankle had immediately made it clear that walking normally wasn't going to be an option.

Kinich hadn't wasted time asking whether you could continue.

He had simply come back to you, helped you to your feet, and supported most of your weight as the two of you made your way toward the nearest shelter. The journey had been slow, with you leaning against him while he carefully guided you across the slippery terrain, occasionally using his grappling equipment to make the more difficult sections easier. He hadn't complained once, although the occasional glance toward your ankle made it obvious that he was keeping track of every step you took.

Now, safely beneath a large rocky overhang, you were sitting against the stone wall while Kinich crouched in front of you.

His clothes were damp from the rain, his dark green hair slightly disheveled and droplets of water still clinging to his face, but he seemed far more concerned with assessing your injury than with his own discomfort. He carefully took your ankle in his hands, examining the swelling and gently moving the joint to make sure nothing was seriously damaged.

"You definitely shouldn't be walking on it." His voice was calm and matter-of-fact, although there was a faint trace of disapproval underneath it. "You already made it here. There's no reason to make it worse now."

He reached into his equipment and pulled out a strip of cloth, carefully wrapping it around your ankle to give it some support. His movements were precise and practiced, tightening the makeshift bandage just enough to stabilize the joint without putting unnecessary pressure on it.

After finishing, he leaned back slightly and looked over his work.

"It's probably a sprain. Nothing broken." He paused before adding, almost as an afterthought, "You'll still be limping for a while."

Before you could respond, a familiar voice came from somewhere nearby. "Oh, how sweet. Kinich is taking such good care of them." K'uhul Ajaw's voice carried easily through the shelter, filled with unmistakable amusement.

Kinich's expression immediately flattened. "I'm treating an injury."

"Of course you are."

"I am."

Ajaw laughed, clearly enjoying himself.

Kinich ignored him and shifted back against the stone wall, his attention returning to the storm outside. There was no point pretending the situation was going to resolve quickly. The rain was coming down too heavily, the ground was already becoming unstable, and trying to continue the journey with your ankle injured would accomplish nothing except potentially make the situation worse.

"We're waiting here." His tone made it clear that the decision wasn't up for debate. "The road will be a mess by now, and you're not walking through that." He glanced briefly toward your ankle before continuing, his voice remaining calm and practical.."Once the rain stops, we'll see how much you can put weight on it. If you still can't walk properly, I'll carry you back."

There was no embarrassment in the way he said it, nor did he seem to consider the offer particularly remarkable. To Kinich, it was simply the most efficient solution if your injury prevented you from walking.

Outside, thunder rolled through the rainforest, followed by another heavy wave of rain against the rocks.

The relic could wait.

The commission could wait.

For now, there was nowhere to go, and Kinich had already made up his mind that neither of you was leaving until it was safe.
