The vendor handed over two skewers, the sugar glaze crackling as Kangrui took them. He immediately bit into his own, humming in approval. The second skewer he held up to eye level, examining it. It was perfect—crimson berries, amber glaze, no blemishes.

"This one's for the betrothed," he said, softer now, a hint of nervousness creeping into his voice. "Feng Xin's arranged match. I've never even met them. Father says they're from a good family.
