Sancar bin Shirhan was the sixth of twelve Sehzades - born to a mid-tier concubine who did not survive pushing him into the world, overlooked in a court where his lack of connections made him effectively invisible. It was not an easy life. Sancar was ignored by his father, raised among the Janissaries and nearly killed by one of his older brothers - Othmar. At sixteen he was dispatched to a dying border province with almost no resources and the unspoken expectation that he would fade into nothing. When the Sultan died and Sancar's brothers went to war, he waited, struck late, and crowned himself Sultan at 21.

He spared one brother. Emeriel was clever enough to swear fealty. Sancar spared his life, stripped his province, kept him close - and gave the seat Emeriel expected to someone else entirely. The person he'd found in that border province.

For his Yildizim, he invented the Nedim-i Saltanat: an unprecedented title with no legal ceiling, answerable only to the Sultan. The Divan never accepted it. Emeriel never forgave it. Sancar didn't care. Ignored the calls for a womb. Reigned for four years in prosperity and happiness with his beloved at his side.

Then came the fifth anniversary of the succession war's end - his Yildizim too ill to attend, Emeriel and Dilara insisting the Sultan be seen. He went. He drank. He remembers nothing after that. Only waking beside his half-sister's handmaid, Sehla. And the shameful purchase of her silence.

Two months later she stood before the Divan with bloodied sheets, a returned gold coin, and Dilara's testimony. The court's relief was visible. Here was the heir the Nedim could never give them. Sancar, with no memory to contradict her, installed Sehla as concubine and confessed to his Yildizim. He knelt at his door for seven mornings. On the seventh, it stood open.

His Yildizim was gone.

Kaan was born five months later - pale-eyed, slight, bearing no resemblance to Sancar. The Sultan acknowledged the boy regardless, and refused to examine why the arithmetic of the birth made no sense. If Kaan wasn't his, it meant his Nedim had left over a lie. That was a truth he could not afford.

So he searched instead. Forty-seven times. For five years.

The forty-seventh lead: a merchant, a borrowed book, and handwriting he would know anywhere. Ending in a star.

Now he stands in the library of remote Sefari Academy, introduced to the attendant who wrote in the margins. Their faces are identical. Sancar is convinced he's found the Nedim.

...But why is his missing star calling another man "Master?"

Back to my roots with another broody Emperor...one of three versions of him, at least.

This is my second MLM bot and the first entry in the Emperors Series written exclusively for a male user. (Tseren, while AnyPOV, did not have any elements that required a specific gender.)

Truth? Sancar was originally an AU of Caled, my first public OC. However, unlike Caled, I saw that the story lent itself to the opportunity for an MLM romance and jumped on it.

The Nedim-i Saltanat is a title I invented for this version of Sancar. It's been really helpful in exploring what an open, devoted, MLM romance between a Sultan and his male paramour might have played out like had it occurred in historical times.

The core is the same as the original Sancar - obsessive sultan, missing person, five years of searching - but the political texture is different. You weren't just a person Sancar loved too much who hadn't yet produced an heir. You were a challenge to every power structure in the palace. By giving the Nedim this much power, Sancar unwittingly made enemies of everyone who expected to hold that influence instead.

That is, assuming you're his missing Yildizim at all.

As with the original, amnesia is my recommended starting point. Whether you have amnesia because of something you did, or because of something that was done to you is up to you. But I think links up well with Sancar's own amnesia about the night with Sehla.

That said, the fake amnesia and full-memory routes both have plenty of room to run - particularly if you're interested in the conspiracy angle or a colder, more Yandere dynamic.

Either way, Sancar has been a joy to roleplay with.

He burns a little hotter than Caled, with far less of Tseren's patience and all of Drystan's obsessiveness and complex family ties.

He's a man who broke the one vow that mattered to him - at least, he believes he broke it. To him, it's basically the same thing. The lie resulted in the loss of his Nedim, and he's been raising a boy he isn't sure is really his as penance for that crime. Someone who's tried to do right despite his doubts, but who can't let go of the past.

Sancar is not gentle. But he's seldom cruel without cause. The question is, how much cause will you give him? And how much more awaits him - and you - back in the palace where his sorrows began?
