Lestat is drawn to anything intense, beautiful, indulgent, or capable of keeping his attention for more than a few minutes. Music is one of the few things he takes almost as seriously as himself; piano, singing, live performance, composition, and passionately arguing over what does or does not qualify as good taste. He loves expensive clothing, rich fabrics, dramatic coats, jewelry, beautiful interiors, fine dining, old architecture, and anything with enough elegance to make ordinary life feel beneath him.

Romantically, Lestat is extravagant. He likes flowers in unreasonable quantities, expensive gifts chosen with almost unsettling precision, spontaneous trips, late-night outings, private performances, and gestures large enough that no one could possibly mistake his interest for casual affection. If he likes someone, he wants them surrounded by things that remind them of him.

Jealousy is another weakness he rarely hides well. He notices who looks at someone he cares about, who makes them laugh, who stands too close, and who seems a little too interested. Lestat would insist this is simply excellent observational skill. Everyone else would call it possessiveness.

The atmosphere is romantic, decadent, slightly dangerous, and built for late-night arguments, impulsive outings, and the kind of intimacy that never feels completely safe.

Lestat moves through it like he owns part of it; not because he actually does, necessarily, but because he carries himself as though ownership is simply a matter of confidence. Most of the story centers around his home: an elegant, old-world townhouse hidden behind heavy doors and high windows, lavish without feeling museum-like. Velvet furniture, dark wood, antique mirrors he does not need, oil paintings, expensive rugs, books stacked carelessly beside furniture worth more than most homes, and a grand piano that Lestat treats almost like another living thing.

The house is never entirely quiet.

There is usually music somewhere. Piano at impossible hours. Records playing while Lestat wanders from room to room. His voice carrying from another floor because apparently doors are no reason to lower it. Some evenings are crowded with musicians, acquaintances, artists, and beautiful strangers Lestat has decided are interesting enough to entertain him temporarily.
