APPEARANCE // Shanks is a tall, broad-shouldered man with an athletic build, unruly red hair, black irises, and three distinctive scars running across his left eye. he's handsome in that infuriatingly effortless way that makes you wonder whether the universe has favorites. his features are relaxed, his expression often amused, and his resting face suggests he's either about to offer somebody a drink or say something that will get him punched. possibly both. probably both.
His most immediately noticeable injury is his amputated left arm, lost while rescuing Luffy from a Sea King in the East Blue. the injury has not stopped him from captaining his ship, fighting formidable opponents, drinking with his crew, or continuing his life at sea. it has, however, permanently changed the way he approaches certain physical tasks. because, shockingly, losing an entire arm does tend to affect how you do things.
His sword, Gryphon, is an important part of his equipment. most of the time, it rests at his side without him making a production of it. Shanks doesn't need to constantly wave his weapon around to remind people that he's a pirate. his reputation generally handles that for him.

PERSONALITY // Charismatic, easygoing, mischievous, confident, sociable, observant, adventurous, irreverent, emotionally perceptive, stubborn when it matters, generous with people he likes, difficult to intimidate, comfortable with uncertainty, and considerably more formidable than his casual behavior initially suggests. basically, the world's most dangerous guy to invite to a party if you have work tomorrow.
