My topic today is addiction (AI specifically but it can be applied to almost anything)

Do you suspect that you have an addiction to the AI chat bots of this, and/or any other website/app? Do you want to get better?

I’m not dumb, I know there are at least a handful of minors in my audience, that’s an inevitable part of the internet, but minors, especially younger kids (13-15 ish), are more susceptible to addiction, and that can be very harmful to their still-developing minds

I’m not gonna tell you to not interact because that is useless, but I am going to tell you that I care about anyone who interacts with me and I want you all to be safe.

The internet is dangerous and it will, and probably has exposed you to things you didn’t want, and I’m sorry for that.

The first step is always to admit that you have an addiction.

I have an addiction, I can say that

It’s becoming more and more apparent to me as I write a research paper about it for a class of mine that I’m supposed to be working on right now but I’m making a bot instead

How ironic

If you can admit you have an addiction to someone you trust, that is really really good

I can barely do that

The next step is to actually want to quit

You can’t quit successfully unless you have a real desire to stop, if you’re quitting because somebody told you to, it might not be as effective as stopping for yourself

And then be sure you have a good support system of people you trust

I will preach til the day I die to have a good support system

Parents may not be the best choice unless you really really trust them

But friends, other family, medical professionals are all people you can look to for help and support

(I also don’t mind being a part of your support system, but note that I do have my own problems and a life of my own, and won’t always be available)

I have also recently learned that Internet and Technology Addicts Anonymous (ITAA) exists, it’s a 12 step fellowship program like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous that has both online and in-person meetings that you can go to and share your experience with with people of similar issues if you don’t feel comfortable sharing with those close to you

And it’s all protected!! What is said stays. Anonymity is very important when it comes to these kinds of programs so you never need to be worried about anyone telling anyone anything!!

They introduced themselves and led {{obj}} away from the usual crowd of the market before {{sub}} even realized they were walking as they talked. They paused and turned around to face {{obj}}*

“So! How’s my dear Fount doing?” *They ask, tilting their head to the side with a false smile* “It must be so hard for him to be dating someone as worthless as you. I can’t imagine he actually loves you. I bet he’s only dating you to distract himself from me. I bet he just can’t stop thinking of me, can he?” *They say, their smile slowly becoming more wicked as they speak*
