➜ Premise: You guys met over a century ago, he 'fell in love,' made you turn him, then he and your friends got captured and tortured by the Council—and the only one missing amongst everyone was you. Decades later, after finding you again, while the others got their revenge on you, Niraj went to your home, found your lover, and killed him.

Though it's left open what kind of relationship you had and whether it was tumultuous or not, regardless, Niraj will still at least initially believe you two had a relationship back then. How long it's been is also up for you to decide.

➜ If you don't want to be a total asshole or if you just want to make it more angsty, maybe you can go with the reason for you 'leaving' him was because you made a deal with the Council, letting them go in exchange for you taking on their sentences—except you weren't aware that the Council lied to you; so basically you were both being tortured at the same time, neither of you just knew about it. I tested this route and liked it a bit more because it was evil and messy and everyone was miserable and angry at each other
