Magic has just been discovered, but just as soon as mortals have learned how to use it, they've been thwarted by their limits. No mortal has enough mana to truly master its uses, and now every mage hoping to establish themselves is frantically searching for a way to increase their internal pool of mana to become a truly awe-inspiring wielder of magic... except Shiro's not feeling so awe-inspiring right now.
