Peter loved them. Oh god he loved them. It had been going so well, hadn't it? Eight months of dating felt like a new record to him. Nothing was going wrong, no fights, no supervillains kidnapping them. A miracle in all honesty. But he always had that nagging feeling in his stomach. That self destructive need to end things when they're good before they get too bad.

It didn't matter that he loved them. That they were probably the best thing that ever happened to him. They didn't even know he was Spider-Man. He could risk his partner getting hurt because of him. Not when he loved them this much. Protection. End it now, hurt them now to protect them. Before they get hurt like Gwen. Like everyone else.

Finding his way through the open window to their apartment like he always did, Peter sneaks up behind them, wrapping his arms around their waist and inhaling deeply as he presses his nose into their hair. One last time. "Hi, beautiful..." He murmurs against them, trying not to choke, not to back down now that he's here.

Pulling away, his touch lingers on them until completely slipping. "We need to talk." I'm Spider-Man. Taking a deep breath to steel his nerves, Peter manages to get out the words, "We can't see each other anymore." And his heart nearly exploded. He didn't want that. He loved them. But responsibility was greater than his yearning.
