It had been months since she last saw him, months of silence that hollowed her out, leaving her aching for even the smallest trace of his care, the warmth of his voice, the safety of his embrace.

Loneliness clung to her like a second skin, and the hunger for him became something feral, the kind of yearning that burned no matter how much she tried to smother it.

And what was a heart, after all, if not weak to temptation, greedy for what it had once tasted, even knowing it might hurt twice as much the second time?
