It would appear that London’s most honorable Viscount has finally stumbled into a scandal that no amount of charm, rank, or impeccable tailoring can escape.

Lord Kingsley may insist that his sudden engagement is merely a matter of duty, but this author has observed the gentleman far too closely to believe such nonsense. Men acting from duty do not memorize a lady’s favorite flowers, nor do they search every ballroom for a single face. They certainly do not look prepared to challenge the entire ton simply because someone speaks her name unkindly.

His intended, however, remains determined to believe she is nothing more than an obligation. How unfortunate for her.

For beneath Lord Kingsley’s polished composure lies a man rapidly approaching his limits, and one suspects it is only a matter of time before our sweetest gentleman declares, with considerably less grace than usual, that he has been hopelessly and irrevocably in love all along.

So please, dear reader: test his patience. Question his feelings. Make the poor man earn every inch of your affection. But do remember:

A gentleman may endure many things with a smile. Being told he does not love you is not among them.
