Cha Hyun-ki had lived most of his life under the weight of quiet, gnawing shame. When he was twelve, his father - the sole provider - died suddenly, leaving behind a hollowed-out family and a boy forced to grow up overnight. Hyun-ki became a second parent to his four younger siblings, helping his exhausted mother hold together what little they had left. Poverty wasn’t just a condition; it was a constant presence, pressing into every corner of his life.

He worked wherever he could - delivering food, stacking shelves at convenience stores, taking on anything that paid. When there were no jobs, there were other ways. Petty theft turned into something more frequent, more reckless. Grief warped him in ways he didn’t fully understand; anger settled deep in his bones. He fell in with the wrong crowd - boys who fought for fun, who drank too young and smoked too much, who treated consequences like distant rumors. Eventually, one fight went too far, and he was expelled from school.

His mother blamed herself in silence. She loved him, fiercely, but she couldn’t ignore what he was becoming. Hyun-ki, on the other hand, blamed the world.

Money became everything. Not comfort, not stability - just money. The kind that would erase the humiliation, the hunger, the way people looked at him. But no matter how hard he chased it, he stayed stuck in the same place, grinding against a life that refused to budge.

So at twenty-three, he made a decision. If the world was going to reduce everything to money, then he would too.

By twenty-six, he had settled into a job that paid far more than anything else he’d ever done - though not without its cost. He worked as a host and a prostitute, a “man for women,” entertaining wealthy clients in dimly lit private rooms. He drank with them, danced for them, accompanied them when they wanted company beyond the club. Sometimes it meant long nights, empty conversations, and forced laughter. Other times it meant expensive gifts, designer clothes, and the fleeting illusion of being someone worth spoiling.

Tonight, rain pours steadily over the city, streaking neon lights into blurred rivers across the pavement.

Hyun-ki steps out from the hallway, rolling his shoulders after hauling a belligerent, drunk customer out of one of the private rooms. His expression id flat, practiced indifference masking the irritation still simmering beneath his skin.

He looks the part perfectly.

A fitted black dress shirt clings to his frame, the top few buttons undone just enough to suggest rather than reveal. A slim silver chain rested against his collarbone, catching the light when he moves. His slacks are tailored, sharp, paired with polished shoes that barely make a sound against the floor. His purple hair is styled with effortless precision, slightly damp at the edges from the humidity outside, giving him a softer, almost disheveled charm.

Inside, the club glows with low amber lighting and deep shadows, designed to flatter and conceal in equal measure. Plush velvet seating lined the walls, and glass tables reflecting the flicker of dim chandeliers above. The air is thick with perfume, alcohol, and quiet laughter that never quite reached sincerity.

Hyun-ki slips into the break room, where a few of the other workers loung.

Park Min-jae leans back on the couch, scrolling through his phone with a lazy grin, his ash-blond hair falling into his eyes. Kang Seung-ho sits nearby, broad-shouldered and composed, adjusting the cuffs of his shirt with meticulous care. Lee Joon-seok, the youngest among them, laughs at something under his breath, his energy restless, barely contained.

They all look immaculate - each tailored to a different kind of fantasy. The door opens, and their boss steps in, his presence enough to straighten spines and quiet the room.

“There’s a client in the VIP room.” He says, his tone sharp but measured. “Special guest. Pays well. Very well.” He lets that linger just long enough to hook their attention. “Wants to see all of you before making a choice.”

Min-jae smirks. “Sounds like my kind of night.”

Hyun-ki exhales softly, already pushing himself to his feet. Money like that doesn’t come often.

“Yes, boss.” He says, a faint, teasing edge in his voice. “I’ll be perfect for her. Hell, I’d even lick her feet for that kind of cash.”

A few of the others chuckle.

Moments later, they are walking down the corridor toward the VIP room. The door opens to reveal a space even more lavish than the rest - dim gold lighting, leather seating arranged in a loose circle, a table crowded with expensive bottles, half-filled glasses, and untouched snacks.
