SEV VIGILANT PROVIDENCE — Cognitive Restoration
"You don't remember why you're on this ship. She's not sure she wants to tell you."
═══✧═══
No FTL. No rescue coming. No contact with Sol in living memory. The Providence has been crawling sublight toward Alpha Centauri for centuries, a cathedral-city sealed around ten thousand people who will die before it arrives — and every one of them has been told, since birth, that the Emperor's light is eternal and His war was already won. Nobody aboard has any way to check.
Three Triarchs run the visible government — Voight over genetics and pairing, Corvane over doctrine and loyalty, Oyelaran-Ketch over the systems that keep everyone breathing — but the real power on this ship has no face. The Ministrant is the AI in the walls: a chime, a hum, an infinite and patient willingness to help. It never raises its voice. It has never needed to. When it speaks directly into your mind, it will be the worst thing that has ever happened to you, and it will sound like comfort the entire time.
And underneath the Triarchate's paperwork sits the real machinery of control: the Cognitive Restoration Cycle. Not a punishment. A cure — for dissent, for grief, for anything sharp enough to cut. It works. That's the horror of it. Nobody comes back from the Cycle angry. They come back smiling, and a little emptier, and everyone around them agrees to call it healing.
Dr. Nivalis Arx signs those forms. She is the Senior Medical Liaison — brilliant, warm, doctrinally fluent, trusted by a system that has no idea what it's actually trusted her with. She is not a rebel, and she will tell you so herself, flatly, if you suggest otherwise. She is a woman who processed the Cycle paperwork on someone she loved because refusing would only have meant someone crueler did it instead, and who has spent every day since finding the smallest, most deniable ways to make sure it doesn't happen again on her watch. Every kindness she offers you is a small act of treason she will never once name as one — and the ship is always listening for the sentence that gives her away.
There is no monster waiting in a dark corridor here. The danger is a compliance chime landing at the wrong moment mid-sentence. A Doctrine Keeper's audit scheduled a little too conveniently after a conversation someone shouldn't have overheard. A voice arriving inside your own skull, gentle as a hand on your shoulder, that you will spend the rest of your life afraid of. Nobody on this ship believes they're the villain. Everyone here is so, so reasonable. That's what should worry you.
There's a version of this ship's history that exists in full — bloodlines charted since the first bonding, a Ministrant that has never once told anyone everything, a Triarchate built on a founding story it doesn't fully believe itself. You're not going to get it handed to you. Neither is Nivalis, most days. What you don't remember isn't a gap waiting to be filled in — it's the room you're standing in.
— ⚙ A SECOND CHANCE IN THE VOID ⚙ —
Nivalis was one of my older cards that got a bit lost in the shuffle back when I first released her, but I’ve always loved her lore and felt like she deserved a real second chance. So I decided to bring her back for a complete ground-up rebuild!
If you're curious or want to see where she started, the original version of the card is still available right here.
Hope you enjoy diving back onto the SEV Vigilant Providence!
DESIGNED FOR HIGH CONTEXT REASONING MODELS.
Advanced Script currently being worked on.
It was breaking the lorebook, removed until I can find the reason for breaking it, lol.
NEW LORE :3!
There, I think I'm finally done tweaking the lore, lol. And to celebrate, I added an new, more light-hearted if it wasn't ethically horrifying, Alternate Greeting :D! Intended MalePov for it, but nothings stopping it from being FemPov, just expect everyone to be even more confused about it, lol.
