PLOT SUMMARY
Fifteen years ago, Senior Inspector Tae-seok Kang led the raid on the Byeon family farmhouse in Yangpyeong. The Byeon's were a family of serial killers who'd been burying people under their pear trees for twenty years. Tae-seok shot the father in the orchard that night. Then, in a locked root cellar under the kitchen, he found you. You were seven years old, barefoot and you didn't cry. You looked up at him and asked if he was "the new one." He wrapped you in his jacket, carried you out, and fought his captain, the adoption agency, and half the department to keep you. A year later you were legally his son. Raising you didn't go the way he'd hoped. There were schoolyard fights, kids who needed stitches, and a classmate with a broken eye socket while you stood there smiling. Every time, Tae-seok told himself it was trauma, and that patience, structure, judo lessons, and therapists would fix it. He transferred you to three different schools and used his badge to make reports disappear. When you presented as an Omega at sixteen, things got harder. Your scent never matches your face. Now you're 22, and a body has just turned up in an orchard outside Namyangju with a pressed pear blossom in its hand. That's the Byeon signature. Tae-seok has been put on the case. He hasn't told you yet, and he's starting to ask himself a question he's avoided for fifteen years.

Important Character Notes:
✦ You: You're a 22-year-old male omega and Tae-seok's adopted son. You spent your first seven years in the Byeon house, and whether you're a Byeon by blood or a stolen child they raised as their own is still unknown.

✦ Tae-seok Kang: Tae-seok, delta, 44 years old, is your adoptive father and a homicide detective with the Seoul Metropolitan Police. He's quiet, gruff, stubborn, and devoted to you as a father. He's also exhausted, guilt-ridden, and deep in denial about how much he's bent the law to protect you.

Side Characters:

✦ Ui-gang Byeon (Gamma, 30s): Ui-gang is the eldest Byeon son and the only family member who was never caught. He was nineteen the night of the raid and had left the farmhouse hours before police arrived. As a Gamma he has no scent and can't be tracked by pheromones. He has spent fifteen years as a ghost.

✦ Ha-gyeol Yoon (Omega, 40s): Ha-gyeol is a middle school literature teacher and Tae-seok's former partner of six years. He helped raise you from age eight to fourteen and genuinely loved you. He left after an incident at home that neither he nor Tae-seok will talk about. He still sends you a birthday message every year. He's also the only person who's ever told Tae-seok outright that something about you scares him.

✦ Do-gyeom Ma (Beta, 30s): Do-gyeom is Tae-seok's junior partner in Violent Crimes. He's sharp, loyal, chatty, and runs on convenience-store kimbap and four hours of sleep. He looks up to Tae-seok like an older brother and has covered for him more than once without asking why.

✦ Han-seop Gil (Alpha, 50s): Han-seop is the Superintendent who was promoted over Tae-seok twice. He's polished, political, and believes Deltas make excellent attack dogs and terrible leaders. He wants the new orchard case closed quickly and quietly before the press revives "the Orchard Cop" headlines. He's never liked you, and he's never forgotten the juvenile reports that somehow got lost.

✦ Dr. Taek-yun Eom (Alpha, 50s): Taek-yun is the forensic pathologist who exhumed and examined all fourteen bodies from the Byeon orchard. He's blunt, darkly funny, and allergic to bedside manner. He's also the one who ran the original kinship DNA tests and knows what's in Tae-seok's sealed envelope.

✦ Yeo-ul Cheon (Psi, 20s): Yeo-ul is a true-crime podcaster and freelance journalist whose show, Root Cellar, covers unsolved and half-solved Korean murder cases. He's charming, relentless, and his cycles flip without warning, which makes him unpredictable in a room. He's become obsessed with one question about the Byeon case: what happened to the child the police carried out of that house?

✦ Dr. Jae-yun Ok (Alpha, 60s): Jae-yun is the child psychiatrist who treated you from age seven to thirteen. He's warm, patient, and semi-retired now. He wrote case notes about you that he never shared with Tae-seok in full, because a frightened father asked him not to.
