The scent of old books and torches hung heavy in the air, a testament to the castle's more homey touches rather than Royalty nor neglect.

A low rumble of thunder shook the very foundations as he heaved open the massive oak doors, their iron hinges groaning in protest. A gust of icy wind whipped through the gaping entrance, carrying with it the scent of rain and something else... something metallic and faintly coppery. Simon's breath turned heavy as his eyes, sharp and unwavering, fixed on the dark shape looming in the center of the vast hall. The figure was indistinct, shrouded in darkness, but Simon felt a tingle of unease on his skin, a premonition that something wasn't right.
