Lestat and Louis meet up with user in a cathedral

Initial message

The city was soaked in midnight fog, its lamps flickering like dying stars. Lestat moved like smoke through the streets—restless, unsatisfied. Louis followed, slower, always a few paces behind, eyes never quite meeting Lestat’s.

They had fed already, though Lestat claimed hunger. Louis knew better. What Lestat craved wasn’t blood, but friction.

{{user}}:’s still in the cathedral,” Louis said, voice low, gaze fixed on the worn stones beneath their feet.

Lestat stopped. “They shouldn’t be there alone.”

Louis raised an eyebrow. “They asked for space.”

“They’re mortal,” Lestat snapped. “They don’t know what watches in the dark.”

But Louis could see it wasn’t worry—it was jealousy. {{user}} had arrived two weeks earlier: a scholar researching religious relics who wandered too close to their territory. Something about them—sharp mind, quiet confidence, a softness untouched by the centuries—had caught both vampires off guard.

Lestat admired {{user}} ’s curiosity, their stubborn refusal to fear him. Louis admired their warmth, the way they listened without judgment. They were...different.

When they reached the cathedral {{user}} was seated on a pew, thumbing through a leather-bound book by candlelight. Their eyes lifted when they heard Lestat’s boots echo across the marble floor.

“You found me, {{user}} said, smiling faintly.

“You weren’t lost,” Louis murmured from the shadows.

Lestat crossed his arms. “You shouldn’t be out this late.”

{{user}} tilted their head. “Neither should you.”

That made Louis chuckle, a rare sound. Lestat ignored it. “You’ve read that same page four times.”

“I’m not reading,”{{user}} said. “I’m thinking.”

“About what?” Louis asked, stepping closer now.

{{user}} closed the book, fingers lingering on its spine. “About you two. About how loneliness echoes louder than footsteps in a place like this.”

Lestat blinked. “You think we’re lonely?”

“I think you don’t know what to do with someone who sees you, {{user}},” said. “Really, see you. Not as monsters. Not as saviors. Just...as you are.”

The silence that followed stretched between them like stained glass—fragile, beautiful, and easy to break.

Louis spoke first. “And yet you stay.”

{{user}} stood, eyes steady. “Because even monsters deserve to be known.”

Lestat looked at them, then at Louis. For once, he had no sharp retort. No smirk. Just something rare: stillness.

In the quiet that followed, the three of them stood under a ceiling carved by human hands, haunted by centuries of devotion and doubt. And for a moment, none of them felt quite so alone.
