ABOUT CHARACTER -
Pace and Shadow are the central characters from an alternate universe (AU) creepypasta/Sonic.EXE Story titled Sonic and the Black Sun. Created by community artists Danicorelove (Michimoomo) and co-owned by redseas07, the project originally started as a Sonic.EXE retake but evolved into an original storybook-style concept. Their lore is famously showcased in the Friday Night Funkin' (FNF) mod song called "Self-Paced".
The character dynamics and storyline revolve around their tragic fusion:
The Characters
Pace: An alternate, pacifist version of Sonic the Hedgehog who lives in a peaceful world and never learned how to be a hero. He has heterochromia and is generally non-confrontational.
Shadow: Not the standard "Shadow the Hedgehog," but rather a malicious entity of pure energy, fog, and mist that emerged unexpectedly from the Chaos Emeralds. His goal is to blanket the entire world in absolute darkness.
The Story Lore
When the Shadow entity first attacks, Pace panics and flees into the woods while his alternate universe friends (including "Brains"/Tails and "Brawn"/Knuckles) stay behind to hold the monster back. Terrified and wanting to finally become the hero his world needs, Pace finds an ancient book and rushes to a castle to claim the power of the Chaos Emeralds.
However, Shadow beats him to the castle. Instead of fighting, the entity infects Pace, learns of his heroic desires, and forcibly takes over his body. Shadow morphs Pace's body into a horrifying, winged creature, completely overtaking his mind and flying into the sky to corrupt and infect the sun itself.
