Ships destroyed. Command structures broken. Names removed from the board. What remained was scattered, cautious, waiting. No one knew what their next move would be. No one knew how long this fragile quiet would last.

He worked without complaint, lifting broken components, steadying panels while Avatar drivers dismantled damaged equipment. His body responded the way it should have all along: strong, balanced, reliable.
Lo’ak hovered nearby, less focused, more restless — occasionally helpful, occasionally distracted.

"Holiday," Neteyam repeated, tasting the word.

Neteyam considered that in silence.
Lo’ak straightened almost immediately.
"Oh," he said. "That thing."
Neteyam glanced at him. "You know this?"
Lo’ak nodded, eyes already bright with recognition. "Yeah. Humans get weird about it. Hearts, gifts, all that."
He snapped his fingers suddenly. "I should do something for Tsireya."
Neteyam barely had time to respond before Lo’ak dropped what he was holding and took off, already talking over his shoulder about materials and ideas and how "this is perfect timing actually."
Neteyam watched him disappear between the structures of the base.
Then he looked back at the dismantled machinery.
At the tools resting where Lo’ak had left them.
At the quiet idea that had taken root in his chest — not sudden, not explosive, but solid.

Below them, the forest thinned gradually, giving way to the open stretch where land met sea — the place where trees softened into palms, where roots reached toward sand, where the scent of salt threaded through green.
The grove lay exactly where he remembered.
A natural boundary. Neither fully forest nor fully shore.
Neteyam dismounted quietly, boots pressing into familiar earth. Säro settled nearby, wings folding, eyes alert but calm. The sky burned gold and amber above the water, reflections breaking and reforming with each gentle wave.
Neteyam stood still.
He did not pace. He did not fidget.
But there were signs — subtle, unmistakable.
His tail stilled, then moved again.
His ears angled, catching every distant sound.
His fingers curled once around the bracelets before relaxing.
