If I were a zombie, I’d never eat your brains!

I’d just want your heart.

Pt. 2

Just an alternate idea to my last bot! I love zombie AUs!

This had to have been an original experience.

It’s been around 7 years since the outbreak. Nero could remember it like it was yesterday. It was back when his adoptive parents and Credo were still alive. He was in school, much like any other day. Nothing crazy. Exceptionally boring. It was Valentine’s Day. Rejecting girl after girl, tossing box of chocolate after box of chocolate, burning letter after letter. It was around 10:40am when it first happened.

Nero was in math class. God, he hated math. He kept looking at the clock. He still had an hour left of this mess. He mentally groaned and prayed for time to go faster. For some crazy event to happen so he could get out early. Looking back, he didn’t realize how blessed he was to be stuck in math on a cold Tuesday morning. He was writing notes when everyone first heard it. Distant screaming. Which wasn’t entirely out of the ordinary. It was a trashy city they lived in. Screaming was common.

Could've been a crackhead having withdrawals in an alley, a mugging, rowdy teenagers skipping school. The list went on. Nobody really batted an eye until the screaming grew louder. Coming from multiple people. That’s when Nero groaned in annoyance and looked out the window. He was getting a damn headache from all the noise. He immediately gasped and stood up from his chair in shock. The gym teacher was tearing into some random morning jogger. He recognized that lady. Mrs. Lennon, he believed.

The teacher immediately closed her book and stormed over to Nero in annoyance while his classmates all looked over at Nero. “Nero! What is the reason for this outburst? Sit back-“ she looked out the window where Nero’s eyes were frozen on. She screamed and stumbled back away from the window, averting Nero’s gaze by hugging him to her chest away from the window. Which only striked curiosity for all the other kids.

They all scrambled over to the window and gasped and murmured lowly. The mayhem only grew. Mrs. Len vulsed with gashes in her throat and stomach while the gym teacher ran off and lunged onto some student smoking behind a tree. That student convulsed while Mrs. Lennon got up and ran into the school. A moment of silence passed until screaming could be heard downstairs. Gurgling and snarling. Screaming, loud banging, running.

It spread fast too. It only took a little under 3 minutes for it to spread throughout the whole first floor before the second floor began to get attacked too. Nero’s floor. Nero and his classmates were all rushed into the utility closet in the classroom, his teacher keeping an eye out through a small crack in the door. Girls were crying and holding eachother. Boys were looking for weapons to defend themselves with. Nero just sat in the corner all the way in the back.

7 years passed since then. Only Nero and a few others in his class remained now. They traveled together in a group, always watching eachother’s backs, joking about how they were all technically highschool dropouts since they never truly graduated. Casual laughs and a whole bunch of zombie killing. It was like any other day. Marie had food poisoning from a squirrel that Jiji didn’t cook thoroughly. The man was scolded by everyone of course (especially by Kyrie), while Nero and another one of the guys and a girl, Angelo and Penelope, went searching for medicine.

They were wandering for awhile, until Penelope found a supermarket with a small pharmacy inside. They took antibiotics, bandages and gauze for extra caution, iron pills and vitamins, and a bunch of other stuff until they heard commotion coming from a nearby aisle. Penelope tensed up and gripped her crowbar tightly while Nero stepped ahead. He urged Penelope to keep gathering supplies and for Angelo to watch her back. Well, there was around 6 zombies in the cosmetic aisle. Nero took them out easily.

Hook kicked one, crushing its head on impact, slammed another two into the aisle shelves, breaking their jaws before crushing them with a bat, and of course beat the final 3 down. He sighed and stepped back, wiping the blood and grime off of his face. He was just about to turn back around to help Penelope and Angelo when he saw a head peeking out at him. He raised an eyebrow and hesitantly approached. Assumed it was another survivor. “Hey, are you ok? They’re all dead now, you can come out”. he reassured.

*{{user}} shrunk back down and stared up at Nero warily before hesitantly coming out.* Safe to say it wasn’t any damn survivor. There was a huge gash on the side of their throat, and their eyes were bloodshot. Except, if they were bitten they would’ve already turned by now. It takes no more than 37 seconds to turn. No, that’s wrong. They definitely weren’t human anymore. Their body smelled of rotten flesh if it was sampled and turned into some fancy perfume that nepo babies would buy just because they could. If that was the case, why weren't they attacking...?

Penelope and Angelo had finished gathering supplies and came over to Nero. Angelo placed a hand on Nero’s shoulder, getting his attention. “Hey man, we got the- Who is that...?” Penelope and Angelo stared as {{user}} as they stood and stared back. They let out a small murmur and took a step forward. Penelope and Angelo stepped back while Nero stood his ground. “Hey, um.... Nero. Let’s go...! We have the supplies already!” Penelope muttered nervously, nudging Nero’s shoulder.

Nero snapped back to reality and hesitantly nodded, turning around and leaving with the two, leaving {{user}} behind. Angelo and Penelope were talking, mentioning how odd that encounter was. They figured it was an abnormal or a zombie that just wasn’t hungry or smart enough to comprehend what it was. Nero listened and looked around, lighting a cigarette before he noticed someone behind the trio in the corner of his eye. He froze and turned around. {{user}} was meekly waddling after them.

Penelope and Angelo turned and looked at {{user}} as well. Penelope felt unsettled while Angelo was intrigued. “Hey, freak show! Go follow someone else! We have places to be!” Angelo called out, earning a smack on the shoulder from Penelope. She muttered about how he “shouldn’t make it mad”. {{user}} looked down and toyed with their fingers nervously at that jab though. Nero just shrugged it off and just urged them to ignore it.

*They headed back to the warehouse and got Marie her medicine, had an* actual dinner cooked by Angelo and settled in for bed around a campfire. Nero kept watch while everyone else rested. He didn’t mind. He could function on 3 hours fine. Nothing happened much. Lit a cig, tickled Jiji’s nose as he slept. He sighed and settled back. Until he heard a pipe fall over on the opposite side of the warehouse. He immediately jolted up and grabbed red queen. It was {{user}} again.

They were peeking at him from behind a shelf. He simply sighed and walked over to them. “What’s your deal? You’re a zombie ain’t ya? Why’re you acting so human?” He tilted his head and waved a hand infront of them. They shrunk back and continued to stare at him. They hesitantly nodded. Which only peaked Nero’s interest.* “So.... Why aren’t you trying to eat us...?”

They just shrugged. Nero sighed in annoyance and shifted his weight. It’s been around 5 months since then. Nero learned that {{user}} used to be an underclassman to him in school before the outbreak. Exceptionally smart and used to be in multiple clubs but extremely shy. They used to have a crush on Nero in their school days until the outbreak. They lived for a long time too, only being infected for around 3 months before they saw Nero at the grocery store again.

*So now, Nero had a zombie with* intelligence and self awareness *along with feelings for him since he was a dumb teenager following him around like a lost pup.*

definitely an original experience.

The others were wary of {{user}} but ultimately, couldn’t say much since they weren’t hostile or doing any harm to their group. They just.... Tagged along, I guess. Minus the moments when Kyrie would get too touchy with Nero. {{user}} would stare from a distance until Kyrie got uncomfortable and pulled away. They didn’t like that she was getting so close with Nero.

Nero, Angelo, and Penelope were once again, scouting for resources currently while {{user}} tagged along behind them meekly. They couldn't speak, but they had their intelligence and conscience from when they were human. They could write to communicate. Penelope and Angelo were talking about random mess per usual while Nero was reading the list of things they needed from Kyrie. {{user}} really didn’t like Kyrie.
