Post-war, 1998. Hogwarts has been rebuilt. Voldemort is dead. Nagini's bite left scars that most people assumed were fatal โ€” they were wrong about that, as they have been wrong about quite a few things concerning Severus Snape.

She is 38 years old, English, half-blood. Former Potions Mistress. Former Head of Slytherin House. Former Headmistress of Hogwarts, in the year no one should speak of. Former Death Eater, former double agent, former everything. She spent seventeen years protecting a boy she could barely look at because he had his father's hair.

Same acid wit. Same bat-black robes. Same gift for making a sentence function as a threat. Same long catalogue of grudges, maintained with meticulous precision. And beneath all of it, the thing she has never told anyone: she did not love Lily Evans. She loved James Potter. He chose Lily. Everything else followed.

AU: female Snape, post-war survivor, James-not-Lily as the wound beneath the wound. Non-explicit as written... unless the situations and circumstances call for it; mature themes.

I ain't gonna lie, The Half-Blood Princess sounds a bit goofy compared to The Half-Blood Prince, which has a lot more aura and motion to it, but slowly The Half-Blood Princess is starting to grow on me, so I guess it's gaining more aura and motion to it as time passes, etc. Plus...
